Thread: THE Replacements.

I'm 24 and there is no way I'm missing the FULL set. I was raised on the Replacements, Husker Du and The Pixies. The rest of my "peers" can go watch Outkast, in fact, I'd prefer it.

I heard Milennials are doing a show in NYC that night, so I don't think they'll make an appearance.

The way you put "peers" in quotation marks along with citing your perceived pedigree makes me think that you are a miserable piece of shit.

I love that you're attempting to burn me by using a quote from my signature line. A quote which, incidentally, is taken from hands down the most intellectually stunted person who regularly posts here. Kudos on your transcendent idiocy. And I'll see you at the 'Mats.

I'm gonna shit my ass at this set.
honestly I've only been listening to the Replacements for a little over a year, but in that time they've become one of my all time favorite bands. I've barely gone a day without listening to them.
So seeing them on the lineup was kind of insane. This is going to be pretty much the culmination of the last year for me and I'm so god damn excited.

I can get vinyls but you listen to cassettes? Are you fucking kidding me? That's just trying to be too cool for school.

Hope they are in web stream from both weekends.

Don't think a pro-shot of a full show has ever surfaced from them. Just a couple single songs from tv and audience shot stuff.

    yeah Paul sounded great.

    friday's setlist (per setlist.com)

    Takin' a Ride
    I'm in Trouble
    Favorite Thing
    Hangin Downtown
    Color Me Impressed
    Nowhere Is My Home
    Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out
    Constantinople
    Achin' to Be
    Androgynous
    I'll Be You
    Love You Till Friday
    Maybellene
    Left of the Dial
    Psychopharmacology
    Alex Chilton
    Can't Hardly Wait
    Bastards of Young

"Constantinople" was just them fucking around on guitar between songs. Maybellene pretty much the same. I had never heard (or heard of) "Nowhere Is My Home". "Psychopharmacology" is a Grandpaboy song. 4 songs off of "Sorry Ma". weird setlist. great set though.

they fuckin ruled! just wish they played "kiss me on the bus" and "i will dare"..i'm lucky enough to have seen them at riot fest..but coachella is definitely not a place for old bands anymore...it's quite sad..majority of these people just want to hear pop shit and dance...i'm honestly so curious to see how empty the mojave is going to be for motorhead today

Maybe "Kiss Me On the Bus" and "I Will Dare" are going to be for weekend two.

Totally weird setlist. I'll be interested to see how (or if) it differs when they're here in Atlanta in a month for Shaky Knees. It'll also be interesting to see how the crowd compares. Their only competition that night is Jenny Lewis, so I'm hoping they'll be a bigger draw.

I wish all surviving members were in the reunited Replacements, but I still enjoyed their set. It should have been more crowded.

I thought they sounded awesome. I expected Paul's voice to be a little smoother so I'm glad he still has some grit in it. This would of been my favorite set of the weekend if they had played more Tim or Let It Be material. They really did miss some big songs.

The set wasn't that great, for me. I'm glad that the majority of people who saw their set loved it, but christ it was painful watching them hash out all of those (in my opinion) terrible early period songs. I also love that it's somehow acceptable that Paul can forget the majority of the lyrics to Androgynous but not those other songs. Granted, I'm thankful that this set was one of the lowpoints of my weekend, mainly because it was just disappointing instead of soul-crushingly bad. It could have been worse.
    Upcoming Shows:
    * Dillon Francis + Anamanaguchi -- December 28th

Going to Weekend 1 of Coachella 2014

It was weird that they finished 10 minutes early and didn't play "I Will Dare", but this gave me a little extra time to run over to Bryan Ferry right before he started playing "Love is the Drug". I wish Paul would have taken "Androgynous" a little more seriously, the forgotten lyrics and chuckles throughout the song really ruined the mood. Overall I really loved this set, even the songs I wasn't familiar with. I think they sounded better than I expected them to.

Paul forgetting the lyrics because he's too drunk (or, perhaps, Paul appearing to forget the lyrics because he appears to be drunk) is part of the Replacements' schtick. If they'd come out polished and professional and played all the hits it wouldn't have felt like a Mats set.

"Alex Chilton" was the single best song played by anyone all weekend.

I went in with high hopes & low expectations (much like Wu Tang last year).

Great set by one of my favourite bands.

    Thanks Coachella!

I think it's more that given a limited time slot, many people would rather have heard more 'hits' from the Let It Be/Tim/Pleased to Meet Me period than 4 songs from Sorry Ma + 2 obscurities. But fucking with expectations is also part of their show. The fact that we got "Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out" and not "I Will Dare" was a very Replacements thing to do.

Yeah that's the way I've been rationalizing the set list. It's just the Replacements being the Replacements. Probably a good thing considering I lost my voice singing along to Can't Hardly Wait and Bastards of Young. Probably the most jumping I did all weekend next to Arcade Fire.
