I'm in Vancouver this week. Great lineup when initially announced but the set times just killed it for me. Plus basically all music acts would be repeats for me.

Craigslist tickets could be had in the past couple days for 40-50 cents on the dollar if you put in the time. 200 instead of 400.

Media reports are saying 26,000 - the one in 2008 had 43,000 according to billboard. Apparently all traffic is smooth so far and the site is all together.

I think someone died at the 2008 festival as well. They ignored the warning signs and went swimming in the river.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called late Friday to the Pemberton Music Festival to investigate what it described in a tweet as a suspicious death.

Festival organizers issued an emailed statement Friday night, confirming that an incident had occurred in one of the festival campgrounds and that RCMP were on site, investigating.

"HUKA Entertainment is working with Pemberton Fire Rescue to care for campers who need to be relocated during the police investigation," said festival publicist Teresa Trovato.

Police tape has also gone up around some washrooms. Festival goer Reut Amit, tweeted that security officials, told her police would be at the washrooms all weekend and that they would remain cordoned off.

Homocide investigation!? Wtf!? Any no way there were 26,000 tickets sold. Not from the looks of the pictures anyways.

This was the only private plane that flew between Vancouver and Vegas and the 2 NIN/SG shows.

Enough for both bands/crews but limited room for gear/production. It also means the gear wouldn't be at the Vegas venue until 3pm. Both acts definitely have some 1 of a kind instruments or production elements.

I scored a free wristband so I drove up for Friday night and Saturday. Along with the "suspicious" death (which happened about 100 feet from my campsite), this festival was quite the shit show. No idea how it compares to 2008, but it was unorganized as all hell and sort of felt like the entire security crew and organizers had been overrun and overwhelmed by the campers. I still had a total fucking blast, but I don't see this festival taking place again next year. There were maybe 6-7k people at NIN, and their set was the only one taking place at the time. I can't see this being anything less than a complete financial disaster.

What festival is happy with sub headliner like Kendrick showing up almost an hour late?

"After showing up 50 minutes late (and even getting booed a little by the restless crowd), Lamar was flanked by a full live band."

That sounds like a pretty good description of 2008. The organization was next to non-existent, only a few of the security people checking wristbands, the rest not giving a fuck, some just looking out to make sure no one got hurt. You couldn't see the dumpsters, as they were never emptied and covered in trash. I think I could have brought in a keg with no problems.

I waited for hours ( I can't recall how many) for the bus from the parking lot to the campground. At the end we walked back, and it took about 25 minutes.

Compared to Coachella which uses Mexicans to clean up and do the grunt work, in 2008, and I assume it's the same this year, Pemberton had to rely on the local Natives. As such, nothing got tidied. By Sunday, even before there was anyone playing, walking in front of the stages meant practically wading through empty water bottles and trash.

I was debating going, but based on going to a Coachella and a couple other small fests, plus a big trip coming up, the travel budget and time didn't allow it.

20k a day is the number being reported.
    http://www.vancouversun.com/entertai...086/story.html

Wonder if that's true, and if it is, maybe the basic bitches just went to camp during the non-EDN and hip hop acts?

Does this crowd shot look like 20,000 people? Crowd only seems packed up to the soundboard.

Still with the "let's play our best song while everyone is trying to get to the stage to see us" shtick?

It looks like way less than 20k. I read somewhere it felt like half the crowd size of pitchfork, which is pretty fucked up considering the caliber of acts playing.

    1. Indie rock is dead

We heard the death knell of indie rock loud and clear at Pemberton. The core of the 20-something crowd (largely thanks to girls wanting to dance) was much more willing to lose its collective mind to the sound and fury of EDM artists and rappers like RL Grime, Baauer, deadmau5, Kendrick Lamar and Chance The Rapper rather than hear The New Pornographers, Gold and Youth, Metric and Metz, who all played for just a handful of faithfuls. Expect more “legacy” names like Soundgarden and EDM superstars headlining the festival in the future, and a mid-day card with more DJs.

    2. A smartphone app that works

The Pemberton Festival did a great job designing its smartphone app, which sent out notifications about schedule changes, and allowed you to customize your daily plans, consult the map to find stages and washrooms, and set concert reminders. It also, unfortunately, came in handy in telling fest-goers to let family and friends know they were OK following Friday night’s death at the festival.

    3. All in or nothing

Many festivals treat their performers to shortened sets presented under standard stage lighting, especially smaller acts playing in the afternoon or early evening. At Pemberton, most acts were given a full 75 to 90-minute time slot, complete with their own regular touring stage design, which made a world of difference for acts like the visually glorious Empire of the Sun and Flaming Lips.

    4. Room for more

At first glance, a daily attendance of 20,000 on a site twice the size of the 2008 event (which boasted 40,000 dusty, dehydrated fans) may have seemed like a step back. Considering the expanded site could easily hold 50,000 people and that logistics like traffic and dust/grass control were handled efficiently this time around, there is certainly room for more of everything at Pemberton.

    5. Water, still

It’s a tired debate, but a bottle of water should not cost four bucks at a festival. (A beer or a single taco shouldn’t cost almost 10 bucks either, but that’s a different ball game.) While there were water refill stations scattered throughout the camping area, only a couple could be found on the festival site itself, and they were not that easy to find. Thankfully the weather was mostly nice and cooler than expected, but had we had a true scorcher it would have been a different story. That said, volunteers did hand out free water bottles to parched people waiting for the Whistler shuttles at night, which was a nice touch.

That article acts like there will be a 2015 Pemberton but the crowd turnout doesn't make it seem likely. Bummer because it looked like it was in a pretty location and the lineup was solid. Would have been nice to see those acts with only 5,000 to 10,000 people to deal with.
