So, these alcohol restrictions are a huge buzzkill ... The FAQs also state that searches will be conducted upon arrival at the festival grounds. Having never been to a festival that does this before, is there a solid way to get around this? Are they likely to actually open up your bags, or just poke around your car and coolers and such?

Can I bring alcohol into my campsite?
    Last Updated: Jul 02, 2014 08:39PM UTC

Yes, you can bring alcohol into your campsite.

Rules and regulations surrounding alcohol amounts permitted in the camping areas include a limited amount of alcohol per person deemed as an acceptable level for personal consumption, by people who are legal age (19) for the duration of the Pemberton Music Festival.

The following is the allowed amount of alcohol per person during the weekend:
    - one (1) 40oz bottle of liquor
    - two (2) 750mL bottles of wine
    - one (1) 473mL case of twenty four (24) cans of beer

IMPORTANT NOTE: There are no kegs or glass bottles allowed in the campgrounds. Also no outside food or drink will be allowed into the festival grounds (including food or drinks from the campgrounds).

Single day passes are $171 at check out.

Advertised as "$129" they are making everyone park in Whistler and take the shuttle back/forth from the festival grounds.

Realistically, how many people per day do you guys think will be there? They made sure to have no competition for the headliners, but will it actually get to near 30,000 even with the last-minute single day tickets brought out?

I'd guess 20,000 people, but who the fuck knows really. They probably won't release actual numbers until well after the festival.

It's gotta be over 30,000 given the lineup and the acts they added recently.

20,000 would be thinly spread over a 4 way conflict like St. Vincent/Justice/Modest/Trailer Park Boys.

The map has just been released as part of the app, looks like a decent setup to me considering the alternating main stages, will be interesting to see if there is any sound bleed from the main stages to whistler stage (if there's a loud vs quiet conflict) also nice to see the comedy tent off by itself, hopefully also free of sound bleed which was a huge problem the time I went to sasquatch (which was 2008, so its entirely possible they've fixed that)

A bunch of the set times have been changed now ... All the headliner slots are shorter (NIN now is only scheduled for 1.5 hours), and so are some of the side stage acts (Grimes' set is down to an hour, among others).

    What gives?

perhaps the original times were placeholders and now they are getting word from the artists of what they actually intend to play

The revised set lengths make sense (as someone pointed out upthread, there was no way Grimes could fill a 90 minute slot), though they're now in the awkward position of having about an hour of no music between the headliners and the late night acts for Friday and Saturday. If I were them I would take the chance to stagger some of the sub-headliners a bit more and fill in the gap, but it may be too complicated at this point. Also, I noticed that they've replaced Earl Sweatshirt with a TBD sign, which suggests that they'll get someone to replace him. Makes sense (having just Minus the Bear playing for an hour would've been odd), though I wonder who they can get this close to the date.

Also, in regards to the overall schedule: I'm pretty happy. I really wish that Metric didn't clash with Chance, and that Modest Mouse didn't clash with St. Vincent, but some conflicts are to be expected. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with Metric and St. Vincent for those two slots, though I'm not quite sure on the last one.

Why are NIN "only" getting a 90 minute set?

Some of that would have agreed upon months ago, in many cases before the lineup dropped. I view the "90 minute" version of the set times as intentional misinformation.

No way were ANY of these following acts going to actually fill 90 minutes at Pemberton:

    Cage the Elephant
    Tyler the Creator
    Kendrick
Stars(they won't even fill the current 75 minutes)
    TV on the Radio
Violent Femmes(have they done any reunion set over 60 minutes?)
    Young The Giant
    Flaming Lips
    Snoop
    Chance the Rapper
Metric(they are in "off tour" mode this year)
    Rebulution
    Lindsey Sterling
    Matthew Good
    Frank Ocean
    Randy Newman
    Modest Mouse

What makes it even worse is if you want to split some sets evenly into 30-40 minute "halves" it's a total guessing game.

I will actually challenge anyone here to find WORSE set times from a festival than the one just published by Pemberton. 2nd/3rd tier stuff in the afternoon and a bunch of conflicts later on. Multiple periods of DEAD time in the evening is a huge no-no. Will 30,000 people watch Jim Brauer in the comedy tent before Soundgarden? What do people do for an hour after NIN/Mau5 while waiting for the late night sets?

Wild Belle got added in the TBD slot on the Thursday. I still think NIN will soundcheck early on Thursday.

Also, is St. Vincent on the wrong stage if it gets crowded?

Soooo... there is going to be an hour with no music every night? Thats pretty lame and doesn't make much sense. You would figure they would bump the night acts an hour forward or something like that.

Also, I just checked out the map. The stages all look incredibly close together. There is gonna be some major sound bleed. Also, the Bass Camp is a tent? Grimes is going to be such a major clusterfuck.

Lot's of FAIL in the set times. Grimes indoors will be a mess since the only real option is watching Tyler. Grimes needs to be swapped out somehow(Big Gigantic/Rich Aucoin/Above & Beyond/60 minute dead spot after NIN). Since she took off the only time people in Western Canada had a chance to see Grimes was the $125 Skrillex show opening act and the very sold out Commodore show - both happened 2 years ago and weren't all-ages. She's cancelled on Calgary twice so there will be some pissed off Albertans striking out for the 3rd time. This is what happens when the promoters are based in Alabama.

The comedy tent might actually be quiet.

All the stages going to 2am are nearest the sleeping tent areas. Good luck sleeping!!

If I remember correctly, the dance tent will have open sides, which should help alleviate the crowding issue, though she probably should've gotten a larger stage regardless. I'm also interested to see if they've got anything planned for the hour between the headliners and the late night acts, because an hour of downtime would be a pretty major screw up on the part of the planners.

As for the stages; I'm hoping that they're far enough apart that there aren't any major sound issues (though having never been to the site I have no idea how it'll work). It might've been a better idea to maybe cut a stage (it's not as if there's a ton of acts here) and spread them out farther, but I suppose we'll see in a week or so.

Also, I mostly agree with Bumblebee's list of bands that'll probably finish early, though I could see Kendrick taking the full slot.

The stages "next" to one another seem to alternate time slots, like they do at Lollapalooza in Chicago. If anyone starts too soon or ends too late it'll be sound bleed city.

Stages next to the camping running to 2am and then tech sound check at 8-9am in the morning will be fun buzz kill. I remember than happening in 2008.

Several people on the facebook are having trouble with the wine restriction. Ever see plastic wine bottles at a liquor store? Some stores apparently reported in Whistler but no sellers currently known in Vancouver. Boxed wine is over the limit not the most appealing of taste. All containers must be factory sealed.

Will be interesting to see how strictly they enforce this, at Coachella it seems to come down to who is doing the search of your car, wonder if Pemberton will be similar

Photo also gives some sense of scale between stages.

I think the arches are the "bass camp". On the right side of the aerial photo you can see the temporary mini road that is for the shuttle bus stop.

Schedule on the site looks way better now, actually makes sense to read instead of looking like a 2002 9th grader using html made it. Though I wish they just moved Stars and New Pornos or something to after the headliners play. Truly might kill the crowds before any midnight shows friday/saturday like you people said.

Boy I'm pumped. These next 2 days of work before I hit the road will be painful

As far as camping goes, how many fests have about 20,000 people camp? Coachella, Bonnaroo, Sasquatch. What else? In that way it could be called the Coachella of the north, so long as they have a great lineup next year.

Looked at the food options today, I'm impressed. Also the weather looks just about perfect. Good days a'comin

bird's eye view of the 2008 Pemberton layout with tents, fences, crowds and stages. 2014 has a very similar layout of the camping area, festival area and the main stages.

Pemberton 2008 left a real bad taste in people's mouth in the province. I am not surprised this is poorly attended.

EDIT: Just searched #pemberton on instagram and found a video of Soundgarden and there is NO ONE watching them. Basically empty main stage. The size of crowd you could expect to see at 3 in the afternoon on the main at Coachella, maybe.

I'm kind of surprised. For the past month all I've been hearing about is people buzzing on Facebook about Pemberton blah blah blah and I have heard nothing about Squamish Festival... yet last year Squamish drew in just over 30,000 (with Vampy Dubs and QOTSA headlining) and I will be surprised if Pemberton hits 20,000. I wonder how Squamish will fare this year in light of this.
