Thread: future islands

One of the most emotional sets (weekend 2) I've seen at Coachella since Paul McCartney. The first time my eyes have been wet at Coachella since McCartney. I can only hope everyone else had something so special. This is why I come back year after year.

Is it ironic that Herring has the most charisma and personality of any lead singer I've seen, yet the bass player shows zero emotion and energy. I find that pretty funny.

Easy on the hyperbole, there. Good, enjoyable set but let's wait a bit before putting them in the Pantheon.
I have been to concerts. I will go to concerts in the future.

None of the other members really show a whole lot of life. Which I think works for them, as it keeps all the focus on Herring. And he's bringing enough to the table to keep everyone entertained.

I remember getting a little emotional the day after they played (weekend two), thinking about how Sam said to the crowd after opening with "Back In the Tall Grass" how humble and happy they were to be playing Coachella for the first time, and how that song was for everyone that traveled 'a long way from home' to see them there.

Do you not make it out to many shows?

Seriously, who told all the hipsters to like this band? And why are they listening? Did pitchfork do this?

There's no mystery to this, and it's not just the hipster elite: the goofy dance on Letterman became a viral sensation, and brought a lot of attention to the band.

It's sort of like 2014's version of Napoleon Dynamite's big dance number.

The Letterman performance certainly didn't hurt, but the band writes some genuinely good tunes. One of my favorite sets from the weekend.

    7/1 - Deafheaven @ The Casbah
    7/11 - Cloud Nothings @ Soda Bar
7/19 - Wolves In The Throne Room @ Che Cafe
8/5 - Arcade Fire, Spoon, Dan Deacon @ Sleeptrain Amphitheater
8/21 - NIN, Soundgarden, Death Grips @ Sleeptrain Amphitheater
    8/22 - Future Islands @ Irenic
    8/23~24 - FYF

This band just seems super corny to me. All the beating on the chest and trying to seem extra intense is a lame tactic to cover up a not so good band.
