The vocal sounds completely different from the 'live at Ameoba' vid. Better.

they've recently signed to 4AD so I'm wondering if their sound is going to be a little more "pop friendly" now. I hope not :/

I was thoroughly entertained by their set at FYF a couple years ago, but I'm not sure if I actually liked their music or if I was just easily amused by their frontman's expressions and how he took every lyric way too seriously.

And also this song, maybe my favorite of theirs:

"The Great Fire" featuring Jenn Wasner from Wye Oak (Both bands are from Baltimore)

I can't wait for them to sing this together.

I love On The Water, but there are a lot of great tracks on In Evening Air too and I think those translate better live (at least from the one time I've seen them). Sam has such an intensity that builds up on those more energetic tracks and so fun to watch (and hear).

One of my absolute favorite songs:

I'm loving the new album. Overall, it's dancier than their previous work. I hope they're given a late afternoon/early evening tent slot.

That's awesome. That's there first time on a prime late show, right? I'm glad they are finally getting a bit of exposure.

Yes. It was their "network television debut."

He indirectly made a great point. Why isn't there any astro turf or carpeting on the stage to prevent any slipping on the sand?
    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

I think they do have some sort of shallow carpeting on the stage. Astroturf might be static prone.

Quite possibly the best set of the weekend for everyone in the audience. I had just seen them in Portland a week prior and they were just as good at Coachella as they were that small 300-person crowd. Perfect set list.

I saw them at the Del Taco in Palm Desert on Friday of weekend 2, quietly waiting for their food. They were so anonymous, I didn't bother them, even though I really wanted to give Sam a high five and a hug.

They'll be back. You might get your chance.

Not my favorite set (that would be Replacements week 2), but a close second and the one I find myself thinking back on the most in the two weeks since...so probably the set that will come to define Coachella 2014 for me along with Frank Turner, just as Stone Roses/Nick Cave defined 2013, Bon Iver/Snoop & Dre 2012, Elbow and Foals and PJ Harvey 2011, Florence & Pavement 2010, McCartney 2009, Prince and Roger Waters and young National 2008
The Replacements - Bryan Ferry - Outkast - The Knife - Dum Dum Girls - Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Broken Bells - Haim - Neko Case - Jagwar Ma - Goat - Waxahatchee

Queens Of The Stone Age - Pet Shop Boys - Chvrches - Mogwai - Warpaint - Washed Out - Future Islands - Ty Seagall - Darkside - Foxygen

Beck - Neutral Milk Hotel - Superchunk - Arcade Fire - Bombino - Daughter - Surfer Blood

I went to Pappy & Harriet's to see Pixies on Thursday weekend 2 where I saw Sam.
I totally forgot Future Islands had a sold out show at the same venue later that night.
He was very nice and had a little chat with me being patient at my poor English and let me take a picture with him.

However I found out that he was nicer to the girls around.

These guys definitely left the biggest mark on me from Coachella this year. I mean, there were a number of sets that I loved and had a great time... but for the most part those were all expected (For instance, it wasn't a surprise that I was going to be jumping up and down and freaking out like a 16 year old school girl during the Pet Shop Boys). But I had only really listened to In Evening Air a couple times before seeing them at Coachella. I enjoyed the album and it made me interested in seeing them... but goddamn, I've been obsessing over their set ever since.

NPR has a great video up of their show from this past Thursday night at the 930 Club:

duude, same here! Singles is amazing, the only thing that could make it better is if he sang those gutural climaxes as he does live. I was listening to the old material and he does that on several songs.
