One of the few acts I can remember seeing from FYF that one year and they were amazing

What's good about this? Serious question. What is it that some of you like about this band? Energy? The guys voice? Are the songs that good? I' trying but I'm just not feeling it.

I kinda dig the song they posted but like FYF there will probably be something else conflicting that I'd rather see.

They were awesome at FYF and I will definitely be watching them where ever they are at Coachella.

I haven't seen them live but I have the two most recent albums and I love them. I fell in love with In Evening Air when it came out. He has a Tom Waitsy growl which is so off-kilter in the poppy arrangements, but the poppy arrangements are just dirty enough that it's a perfect fit. Some lovely melodies in that album too.

That live video is absolutely fantastic. Thanks for bringing it to my attention even if it was done in a dismissive way.

On The Water was my introduction to the band, and I personally listen to it a lot more than In Evening Air. To me, the songs are very powerful and emotional. They're like big, dramatic ballads and they give me an overall fuzzy feeling that I like. Check out "Where I Found You," "Give Us The Wind," and "Balance" from On The Water. And also this song, maybe my favorite of theirs:

"The Great Fire" featuring Jenn Wasner from Wye Oak (Both bands are from Baltimore)

I discovered them on an FYF playlist when I was prepping for that in 2012 and fell in love. Seen them at FYF, Virgin FreeFest (outside of their hometown) and at a tiny venue in Richmond in the last year and a half and every time they've been increasingly better. They always bring a lot of intensity and the last two times I saw them kids went apeshit for them. I'm expecting a slot similar to Wild Nothing this year, which I would be really happy with.

I remember liking that song Balance a lot when it came out. Then I listened to the rest of their stuff and it's pretty bad.

FYI, Bombino is definitely not electronic.

Now this is a good answer.

I'll check out some of the albums and see if it strikes a chord. That live video makes me want to stay away but maybe after a few listens I'll like it more.

edit - enjoying that vid that icedkeg posted so maybe all is not lost.

Balance, Tin Man, Walking Through That Door, and Before The Bridge are all good.

Some of the other stuff has a bit too much growling in it for my taste... but they are excellent and highly entertaining live.
