Sasquatch is a size smaller than Coachella. Their headliners are typically Coachella subheadliners.

Any chance of a My Morning Jacket-esque band to step into the lands end headliner against an Avett Bros on twin peaks? Sort of co-headlining.
I'd be pumped to see David Byrne, but I'd prefer it if Black Keys went through another album cycle before returning to GG Park.

The Black Keys always seem to slip into a random headlining spot. Was surprised to find that they have technically never headlined OSL. They also may be releasing a new album this year. I love their catalog but when I saw them last they had totally sold out, gone for cheap pop production and a somewhat stale setlist. Still sounded great though.

Having a wee gander at the poster for 2013, I can only spot Emili Sande as a crossover. Seems to be a bit of a different crowd at V.

Coachella got bragging rights of first to announce, but other the other 70,000+ major festivals don't want to "share" a headliner with 2 dozen other US festivals for 15-30,000.

An all festival tour is different that an arena level tour mixed with a 2-3 festivals(like Muse or Arcade). Major festivals have 50% of fans that travel a long way to see performances that are somehow more special than Pittsburgh on a Tuesday night.

just read this from a friend post this morning...

Quote below from Dr. Funkenberry's review of the Saturday night show in Oakland:
"During the show, Prince hinted a couple of times that he'll be returning to the Bay Area again. "Even sooner than you think. And we'll be bringing some friends," he told the adoring crowd"

    Second clue found...
The following quote "when a rumor caught on fire this past Wednesday that he and 3RDEYEGIRL might be coming to Fox Theater in Oakland, courtesy Another Planet Entertainment."
was found in the review posted at...
    http://rocksubculture.com/.../prince...3rdeyegirl.../

Guess who promotes the Outside Lands Festival, yes Another Planet Ent does, hmmmm.

5/03 Danny Brown at El Rey
    5/23-25 Sasquatch! at The Gorge
6/14-15 Low End Theory Festival at Echoplex
    6/22 Talib Kweli at Echoplex
7/11 J5 / Quannum Projects at Greek Theatre Berkely
8/25 - Nine Inch Nails / Soundgarden / Death Grips at Hollywood Bowl

Prince is kind of like Stevie Wonder was for me a couple of years back - I don't think I'd ever buy an album, but I'd do almost anything to see him live at least once.

"We'll be bringing some friends...." That's got to be a festival, right?

That would get me back to OSL. His shows at the Forum a couple years back were incredible.

I wouldn't be surprised. I thought someone said something similar to that a few pages back.

    Nice find.

Last year, Phoenix played a "surprise" show at the Independent (another APE venue) and then played OSL...may be a trend.

I hope that he is coming to OSL this year, but he could also be talking about doing a proper tour for this album by playing Oakland and/or San Jose shows like he did a few years back.

Prince would make a great OSL headliner, and if there is anyone who is going to get him for another festival it would be APE. I know that there is no evidence to support this, but I would love to see The Allman Brothers Band play one last Bay Area show at OSL. I think the last time that they played the Bay Area was when the Fox Theater opened. Here's hoping.

As for Prince, he's playing again at the Fox this Tuesday. http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/1C004C6C3790B76B

So that's probably what he meant.

    8/16: Anthony Naples, Maxmillion Dunbar @ f8
8/18: Man Man @ The Chapel
    8/23-8/24: FYF Fest
8/30: Peaking Lights @ The Chapel
9/3: Bear in Heaven @ The Independent
    9/24 - 28: Decibel Festival
10/5: The War on Drugs, Cass McCombs @ The Fillmore
    10/18-19: Treasure Island Music Festival

I think Prince is tricky to get because he doesn't really do contracts.

And that list of rumored headliners is fucking pathetic.

He's done festivals in Europe with months of lead time.

Who is on your list? Just trying to get the convo started. Also get off your high horse, no list is pathetic with Bruce.

My hope is Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, I've had the pleasure of seeing them at almost every show they've played in the Bay Area for the last ten years.

Bruce and Prince. I would die a happy man. I've been on a HUGE Prince kick lately, would kill to see him. Controversy currently in my car stereo.

I'll bite. For this festival I think that the following list would be great:

    The Cure
    Tool
    Roger Waters
    Outkast
    Rage Against the Machine
    Jay Z
    Arcade Fire (first repeat headliner)
    Daft Punk
    Prince

    Queens of the Stone Age
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
    Kraftwerk
    Portishead
Iggy and the Stooges (with replacement drummer)
    Mazzy Star

The Cure and OutKast are headlining Bottle Rock fest in Napa a couple months before. Arcade Fire is playing in Mountain View a couple months before OSL. So none of them will be at OSL.

I'm assuming the second group of names are not headliners because they are not big enough to be headliners at OSL.

But you have some other decent ideas so I would say that an updated potential headliner list would be something like this:

    Bruce
    Prince
    Elton
    Kanye
    Coldplay
    Jay Z
    Killers
    RATM
    Tool
    Green Day
    Mumford
Allman Brothers (I like the thought process on this one Chillerwhale)
    Eminem
    Roger Waters

There's not a lot of new bands on there, but there really hasn't been a new band headlining OSL since the Muse/Arcade Fire year. And when I mean new, I'm talking a band that has been around for less than 20 years which obviously isn't really that new. Which would be even more reason that OSL might want to branch out into hip-hop this year.

they might get desperate and do what goldenvoice did last year, getting two sub-headliners to co-headline.

I kinda feel like they did that last year with Phoenix/NIN.

I consider NIN a standalone headliner.
