This is the way the wind's blowing it seems and promoters are seeing it. Unfortunate. Oh well, plenty of smaller fests out there.

I mean, that's when I really wanted to see them. Obviously those artists have been making music for WAAAAAAY longer. That was just my real discovery and initial appreciation of them.

FYI - Ranger Dave is full of shit. I remember 2012 he said basically the same thing and it did not sell out until end of July.

If this lineup sells out this soon then (i) the economy is doing very well and (ii) festival popularity has hit its peak

bonnaroo made the same claims in 2012 and 2013. 2012 didn't sell out at all and 2013 sold out 3 days before the festival. it's just a tactic to get people to buy out of fear they'll miss their chance later on.

It doesn't really take a lot to excite the masses these days it seems.

Anyone ever buy a weekend pass through stubhub within the week of? I really want to go, for the undercards. But didn't think it would sell out this quick. Hoping the week of I might be able to get some dirt cheap passes or something.

In response to (i) you're right. In response to (ii) you're also right, look at how many festivals are popping up across the world. While I'm sure in the boardie world they aren't popping up, but rather gaining traction - to someone like myself who attended my first 3-day fest last year the former is true. (iii) this may be true, but also realize that more and more the only way to see a lot of bands anymore is at a festival. Look at the touring sched for a lot of these bands.

If anybody has an extra ticket they're selling (face value + i'll pay for shipping if you have to ship it) I will buy it in an instant. Didn't expect it to sell out this quickly, so i'm out of a ticket. This will hopefully be my 5th Outside Lands in a row. Help a boardie out

I'm on the fence this year. By mid-July, if I decide not to go, I will look to the board to get rid of my tickets.

I trust you about it being a bluff but I don't understand how this benefits the festival. If they say they are sold out of 3 days and they are not doesn't that mean in order to keep faking everyone out to drive up demand they can't sell tickets and therefore they are losing potential sales. Can someone please explain this to me?

75,000 capacity in 2014, which was a 5-10k bump from last year?

    ^Yes, an increase of 10k from 2013.

In December of 2012, the Fest's permits were renewed for an additional 8 years. At this time, the approved capacity was increased to 75k. However, in 2013, the promoters elected to keep capacity at 65k, which was great. If this year's capacity has been increased to 75k, it will be yet another strike against 2014s fest.

Where are you getting that? Its been 60,000 to 65,000 the past few years. They said they could have raised capacity last year but decided not to, which seemed like a weird decision.

And also WTF, its already sold out? I really think this has be from scalpers. Kinda like how they sold out three Neutral Milk Hotel and Kraftwerk shows at the Fox in the past month, but then you could get half price or less tickets day of on stubhub. Hell, my friend bought a $10 ticket to NMH last night (which by the way was really really good).

If its not scalpers, I really don't understand the buying public. I don't hate the lineup but its objectively the weakest of the past two (2011 wasn't super strong now that I look back at it although Sunday was an amazing day of music). And it sells out in crazy record time. I guess Macklemore and Tiesto are there for a reason and they bring asses in the gate. Who would have thunk it?
