What I love about these lists is seeing all the great stuff other people experienced that I didn't, I really mean that, it's quite cool to see that no matter how much I do there's still an entire world of amazing experiences out there.

my list is small. i'm also bummed janelle monae isn't on here, but guess i have that to look forward to next year.

    1. sigur ros - comerica theatre, az - i've seen sigur ros or jonsi about 5 or 6 times and this was the best. so emotional and i love the new dubsteppy sound they've got going. i sat alone, but that didn't stop me from crying during olsen olsen and a few others. also ran into a lot of people i know, including the my former "work husband" who got me into them in the first place by telling me to see them at coachella 2006, which is how i met my very first boardie, brandon and we took the infamous nips pic
    2. postal service - comerica theatre, az - never seen them and had been waiting about 9 years for this to happen. really enjoyed them playing my favourite songs of theirs in a row (i forget the order, but it was brand new colony, natural anthem, and the dream of evan and chan). they really put on a great performance.
    3. ben folds five - wiltern, ca - i finally got to see them last year at mountain jam and i prefer that setlist and performance, but this was still obviously good. i got really emotional during magic (a song about a sick person). i was sick for so long and it was weird to think about how different i was when i was sick and how much i've changed since being sick. in addition, i saw the show with my first boyfriend who got me into BF5, so that was cool too. plus, the wiltern man, love that venue.
    4. nin - us airways arena, az - great show. had no plans to go and got to take rick's place since he couldn't make it. really loved the version of sin they played. pretty good setlist. the new stage show is neat, though not as mind-blowing for me as the LITS tour was. the LITS tour production fit better with each song.
    5. adam f - roxy lounge, az - one of my favourite dj's. i've seen him before, but it was nice to see him again. brought out a lot of old school fans too. kept it dirty. danced my ass off with NachoCat.
    6. funny or die oddball comedy tour - desert sky pavillion, az - this would have been much higher if demetri martin would have showed up. i wasn't expecting much from chappelle, but he was good. not a big conchords fan, so that was the low point. a few other funny acts as well, the guy who talked about gun control was hilarious, so was the chick who made jokes about being ugly. not a fan of the MC guy who kept making fun of the crowd. not usually a fan of that in general unless it's done well.
    7. richard lewis - stand up live - this was a nice $10 ticket surprise. he had no act and just kinda rambled. i was amused.
    8. depeche mode - desert sky pavillion - i think this was my third time seeing them. had a ton of fun! had a few nice surprises in the setlist like just can't get enough, policy of truth, and never let me down again.

Will try a few even with cold hands and a poor memory.

Deerhunter (was really in love with the band at the time and was really drunk, so we all came together and on each other)
    Stone Roses (the dream realized)
Blur (big british band doing big british songs)
Youth Lagoon (a favorite 2013 album)
Space Oddity 40th Anniversary of Alladin Sane (kiss, kiss glammy fun)
The pilgrimage is not perfected save by copulation with the camel.

Alright, let's do this. I can honestly say that this has been my best concert year ever. 6 festivals (Coachella wk 1 & 2, edc Vegas, fyf, outside lands, and life is beautiful) and about 30 other shows. Tough to choose a top 10.

    1) The Reflektors- Hollywood Palladium. Lucked into a last minute ticket thanks to Corbo on the board. The show was fantastic!! You could tell it was a crowd of die hards. Even though the new cd had only been out for two days everybody knew every song. The band, the setlist, the costumes, the energy, the venue, everything was perfect!! Plus we got Headlights look like diamonds. Amazing!!
    2) Nine Inch Nails- Staples Center. Had great seats looking right at the stage. Brought my 9 year old son, he's a huge NIN fan and they did not dissapoint. The stage set up was one of the most visually stunning I've ever seen. Trent's voice was spot on, and I thought the new songs were great live.
    3) Queens of the Stone Age- The Wiltern. Thanks to Tall Chris letting me hop in line with him I was able to get 3 feet from the stage. I purposefully avoided hearing Like Clockwork before the show so I could hear it live for the first time and it was outstanding. Josh was into from the start and the energy was pulsing throughout the Wiltern.
    4) Paul McCartney- Outside Lands. Macca really brought it this tour. I was 10 feet from the stage and he killed it for 3 hours!!
    5) Sigur Ros- Coachella week 2. This band just brings out something emotionally that nobody else does. Pure haunting beauty.
    6) Soundgarden- The Wiltern
    7) Atoms For Peace- Hollywood Bowl
    8) Pearl Jam- LA Sports Arena night 2
    9) NIN- Outside Lands
    10) Deerhunter- FYF

Honerable Mention- Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds- Coachella week 1, Beck- Life is Beautiful, The National- Outside Lands, Simian Mobile Disco Coachella week 2, Kanye West- Yeezus in Vegas, Menomena- El Rey.

I could go on forever. So many great sets!!
    COACHELLA- 99, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12 (wk 1 & 2), 13 (wk 1 &2), 14 (wk 1 & 2)

We're not like you youngins anymore, who see five shows a week --- we see about a dozen shows a year give or take nowadays, plus one festival, so I'll list my top five faves in order of appearance:

Kishi Bashi @ The Casbah - I am the Antichrist to You is guaranteed to give me goosebumps.

    Tycho @ The Belly Up

Beth Orton @ Pappy and Harriets - I had forgotten she existed and didn't know she was still around playing until I saw her name on the schedule. Her voice is as lovely as ever and she was so sweetly amazed and delighted to be playing for the first time in "this magical, mystical place in the desert". We were completely captivated.

Moby @ The Fonda - holy crap that had to be one of the most fun shows ever.

    NIN @ The Joint

And I have to add this -- though technically I was not there, I watched it on the stream -- but Grinderman @ Coachella was so ridiculously good.

Louis Louis and Rise Above were the highlights for me. The Catalyst in Santa Cruz is such a great little venue, the slam dancing was definitely on and the crowd was into it. I'd have to say though, seeing the Rollins version in 1984, from right against the rail (along with the Ramones and the Minutemen), was quite a lot more exciting. Like the Ramones, who were way past their prime by their last shows in 96, Black Flag were really a shadow of their former dangerous selves.

So Rollins is with neither of the current incarnations of Black Flag nor FLAG?

Like the Ramones, who were way past their prime by their last shows in 96, Black Flag were really a shadow of their former dangerous selves.
And now I get into pure jealousy mode. The Minutemen is the one act, above else, I wish I would have been able to see.

    That sounds like fun.

The Circle Jerks probably don't have a great chance of reuniting. By the end Keith was the only one who wanted to keep playing their stuff, the rest of the band had drifted away from interest. That's why he started OFF!, as a way to channel the songs he was writing for a new Circle Jerks album that was (I think) supposed to be produced by Mario Rubalcaba, who drums in OFF!. It sounds like their demise wasn't too pretty from the times I talked with Keith around the start of OFF! at various FYF events.
