Thread: Would you want a Quiet/Family camp area at Coachella?

  1. #1

Lightbulb Would you want a Quiet/Family camp area at Coachella?

    Well? Would you?

Ignoring all the other issues that lot 4 had, those of us that camped in lot 4 during 2013 quickly learned how far away from everything it was and probably hated being so far away. based on past threads there seems to be a decent enough amount of people interested in a more low key Coachella camping experience and would likely appreciate being farther from the noise after the music stops. A quiet area would also be a good place for families to camp for those that like to bring children.

someone posted in the Lot 4 thread that it has been dug up and all the thorns are gone and new grass is in its place, so for this poll we'll assume that the grass in that lot will be on par with lots 8 and 10 and that there will be adequate restrooms, showers, and a place to get food/supplies nearby.

I should have included an option for those of us that wouldn't utilize the quiet area but think there should be the option. oh well. I'm not personally interested in a quiet or family camping area, but I can see the usefulness of such an area if there was enough demand for it. I hope to never get stuck out in lot 4 even if it had nice grass and amenities, but those interested in a peaceful area would definitely appreciate it, IMO.

how come? the thorns? lot 4 has been dug up and has new grass and if it had proper restrooms and showers it would have been a good lot for people that didn't want to be in the main lots either because of the noise or because it isn't the right atmosphere for their families. I wouldn't wish the 2013 lot 4 on my worst enemy, but with the right upgrades I can see it work for people that aren't there for the after party.

Amy, this hypothetical "family" lot would be optional for families, not mandatory

Oh, and my vote would be for the option you didn't include. I wouldn't use such a lot, but I think there would be plenty of people who might.

It would be a great option, now that said thorns are supposedly gone. On that note, Lot 4 did have one section closest to the path that lead into the festival that had a mini-sahara tent (about 8 30x10 car camping spots) that my crew & I enjoyed around 3am. That section was no "quiet area" by any means. That plus the wiffle ball beer chugging section were the only amenities.

I'd say it's a fine idea, I just wonder whether there's really enough families camping to fill out an entire lot. And if not, what do you do then? Suppose there's only enough quiet family camps to fill half the lot. You're gonna have to fill the rest of it with normal campers.

It's a fine idea and all, but I don't think feasible realistically.

yeah, the poll results seem to back that up. besides families, there's also a bunch of people who would like to have quiet time that would easily coexist with the family types, but both combined may still struggle to fill a lot. of course, if there was a family area available, we'd probably see an increase in families that want to camp (and yeah, that brings with it its own slew of problems).

I think they should be RVs back and use Lot 4 for that. I would pay like $500 for a RV spot

Sasquatch has separate campgrounds called "Wild Horse" which is pretty rad. Family camping without families.

I was actually wondering about this. It's our first time to the festival, and we are traveling without the kids this time around. I was wondering about bringing the kids next time, but I wanted to perform an assessment beforehand to see how plausible it would be.

the campgrounds can get a little rowdy and I don't think it's all that appropriate for young children, but I do see a few kids in camp every year. you have to be 18 to enter the campgrounds without a parent or guardian so I think most families stay in a rental or hotel.
