Nice seeing this a couple of times. I think it's really good and has been overlooked this year, especially considering it's Justin Vernon and it sounds a lot like Bon Iver and everyone is so high on Bon Iver.

It's actually the score to a short film series. That's why all the tracks are brief.

And Dustin O'Halloran is one half of A Winged Victory for the Sullen (the half that's not in Stars of the Lid)

    Yeah, that's interesting.

I was actually just looking at the board's 2011 albums thread and was really surprised that Atlas Sound's Parallax didn't even place. Although it was released in November so maybe it didn't register with many yet.

on first listen i loved it but it gets so fucking boring. production is way too similar throughout, and little to no subject matter, which is one of the reasons Killer Mike is as acclaimed as he was on R.A.P Music

i'm surprised nobody has mentioned my #1, i guess you guys aren't into the whole emo revival scene, but it's a totally great record if you're into 90's midwest emo such as Cap'n Jazz and American Football, and also incorporates some post-rock inspiration.

I added this in my honorable mentions, I didn't spend enough time with it to add it to my list but I did really like it the few times I did listen.

I'm really not so hype on Run The Jewels also. As much as I fucking love El-P, I've heard all his tricks a thousand times and I don't think much on this album really stands out in his catalog. R.A.P. Music was a refreshing change of pace for his production because even though it sounded like him, he had to push a little bit out of his comfort zone and tailor it towards a fairly different emcee than usual for him. Run The Jewels kind of feels like Cancer 4 Cure Pt. 2 (feat. Killer Mike), and Cancer 4 Cure already kind of felt like I'll Sleep When You're Dead Pt. 2. I dig it, it's plenty fun and fairly solid, but I just can't truly excited about it.

El-P and Killer Mike have already addressed this a bunch of times... the entire album was made while they were on shrooms and it was just them having fun. It is not meant to in your face like R.A.P. music was. The album is basically their victory lap and its them not taking themselves so seriously. The production is insane on throughout (especially "Sea Legs"), both of them kill it in every song, and the album is just a total blast.

that doesn't change my opinion on the quality of the music though. it's not like i said i hate killer mike & el-p for releasing this album, i just don't really love the album like some people.
