Thread: Hangout 2014 May 15-18

    Default Hangout 2014 May 15-18

Official dates are May 16-18, but the pre-party adds Thursday. They've got a new production company (RED MOUNTAIN: Beale St Music Fest, Bayfest), so the lineups could get better...or worse. They book good music, but they also book terrible music that sells really well. Can't say that I blame em, but I'm hoping this lineup is more Beale St. than Bayfest, and I think it will be. If you look at the acts they are working with now, I would expect at least one big country act like Florida/Georgia Line or even Alabama to help appease the local crowd.

My first guess is Neil Young & Crazyhorse Phish/Widespread Panic Arcade Fire Robert Plant & Sensational Space Shifters Something with Lazers

Here's to hoping we get something like that 2011 lineup. Who's going?

I watched a lot of the webcast for this, and fuck it looks like fun. They don't book enough acts I like to make it worth the price though.

I talked with some people at Forecastle this past year that had gone to Hangout. They had said that security was brutal and that they were randomly pulling people from the entrance line and were they were being taken to walled off pop up tents for strip searches down to undies. Not complying meant no entry and being handed over to the cops. They said it was a security measure as a result of the Boston bombing.

For this festival? I would guess Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, Widespread Panic, Kings of Leon and Sting.

I have family that lives really close to where they throw Hangout. Definitely trying to go next year, unless the lineup sucks

Here's a view from the main stage VIP area. If you can afford it, it's more worth it than any fest we've been to. Free beer and liquor all weekend plus two swimming pools and huge areas to hang out for the two main stages.

Amos Lee is playing according to a Pollstar slip not long ago, and The Flaming Lips are likely. So are The 1975 and Portugal. The Man.
    UPDATE: Houndmouth are also rumored.
For those who are interested, I started a Hangout board not long ago, but not many folks know about it yet.
It's http://theboogieboard.net. It'll help if you are thinking about making the trip.

Damn I want a lineup to drag me out to this one. I've watched the webcast and it looks amazing. What a bummer, I mean this lineup is decent but is it good enough to make the effort?

I'm in the same boat each year. I want to go to this festival so bad because it looks awesome but the lineup is legit never worth it.

If set times worked out, I have enough I'd want to see. Do they announce set times a month or two in advance? Doesn't the festival sell out early?

AWK with full band is pretty fucking awesome. That is, unfortunately, too rare of an occurrence considering how much he tours.

I keep telling people that while Outkast is a headliner, they are not the massive draw that many people think they are. They aren't even the biggest headliner at Coachella. There is a reason they are doing the festival circuit and not an arena tour. Doubt they could sell out many of the arenas across the country. Them headlining everywhere is going to kill a lot of these festivals. Hangout played it smart by getting one of the biggest rock bands in the country(the Black Keys) and the Killers who still draw.

He's done a Ramones setlist tour, he's done spoken word tours, he's done DJ tours, solo piano with a drum machine, full band and I seen him do a couple sets with Nardwuar.

QFT, plus Outkast is from Georgia and they will still draw pretty big around Alabama gulf area, especially with "spring breakers/school is over" type crowd.

The lineups have been down lately, but 2011 was one of the best lineups I've seen for any festival.

    hangout2011.jpg

They're not even close to being done this year, in terms of big names on the lineup. They're off to a good start. Los Lobos on the beach for da win.

99% of the time, when you see an AWK tour date, it is him performing without his band. Of that, 90% of the time it is him solo. It is literally just him, a piano, and backing tracks. He also does DJ set tours as well as spoken word lecture tours. He very rarely performs with a full band anymore. He only a small handful of shows per year with the full band.

EDIT: As Bumblebee also noted, he just recently finished a tour as the frontman for Marky Ramones' band.

While there are only seven acts of the top fifteen that I'm interested in, I'm pleased with the undercard, and it's going to get much better.
