How many of us flew/drove across the country for an ATP NY/NJ festival? Of the people you talked to, how many were local-ish? How many were from out of the country?

I mean, yeah, nearby festivals are easier to get to and thus more attractive but a boutique festival can get by with a majority of out of towners. And they can pull them in with the right line-up.

If there was an ATP-esque destination festival in Tucson there'd be more people from New York (and a lot of other states) than from Flagstaff. I'd bet the people from California would top those from Phoenix.

I guess they're not completely done with festivals.

    ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES ICELAND 2014

July 10, 11 & 12 2014 at Ásbrú (Former Nato Base), Keflavík, Iceland

Early Bird tickets now available here.

Described as the "ultimate mix tape", All Tomorrow's Parties is a boutique festival that goes against the grain of the larger, more commercial music festivals - with quality and customer experience coming first - presenting award winning sound and acclaimed organisation. Since 2000 it has spread its ethos of uniquely intimate and eclectic events through the UK and onwards to Spain, Australia, Japan and the USA.

ATP is very excited to announce the second All Tomorrow's Parties festival in Iceland on July 10th, 11th & 12th at the former NATO base in Keflavík, which is now called Ásbrú.

ATP founder Barry Hogan: "Following our first ATP Iceland event earlier this year headlined by Nick Cave, we're very happy to be returning in July 2014. We are preparing an amazing line-up which will be announced very soon!"

Early bird tickets are available now and the line-up announcement will follow soon.

Dates: The festival takes place on three days - Thursday 10th, Friday 11th and Saturday 12th July, 2014. The music will run from 7pm to 2am each day (exact times subject to change) with around 25 acts set to play live across the three days.

Location: ATP Iceland will be held at Ásbrú, the former NATO base in Keflavík, Iceland. The former NATO base dates back to 1941 and the last US military personnel left in 2006. The site is located only 5 minutes away from Iceland's main international airport, 15 minutes from the famous Blue Lagoon and 30 minutes from Reykjavík. The festival site will host two indoor stages and a cinema with films picked by ATP and the bands, as well as the usual ATP extracurricular activities like DJs, Pop Quiz and much more. The capacity for the intimate festival is just 5000 people.

A non-US ATP festival announcement in the ATP US festivals thread is such a tease.

they never said they were completely done with festivals. just the UK. "These will be the last ever UK Holiday Camp festivals."

i highly doubt they'd do anything in the US not relatively near a major city (NY, LA, maybe Chicago). i went to kutsher's in 2009 and asbury in 2011, and i think a strong majority were from the tristate area. did meet and notice a large amount of australians though at kutshers. i still don't understand how they couldn't sell out at kutsher's. it was perfect and amazing.

    It's raining Kutsher's:

    http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbc...NEWS/311290331

The sale of the last iconic Catskills resort was finalized late Wednesday, according to Sullivan County Industrial Development Agency Chairman and county Legislator Ira Steingart. Once the site of legends like Wilt Chamberlain, Mickey Mantle and Jerry Seinfeld, the century-old, family-operated Kutsher's Country Club is being transformed into a $90 million Nature Cure Lifestyle Management Center. "We need resorts like this in Sullivan County," Steingart said.

The 1,300-acre resort, both its man-made and natural lakes, and all its properties outside Monticello were sold to Veria Lifestyle, which is connected to the Veria Living media conglomerate. Veria's management has said it hopes to start demolition very soon with the opening expected next spring. Steingart said the timeline is aggressive but he's eager to get the property back on the tax rolls and create hundreds of expected jobs.

"I'm very excited about the closing," he said.

Steingart said Veria is looking for bids to demolish the building and is hoping to hire a local company. The agency approved a sales tax exemption of $88,000 for the process in October. The healthy living resort will feature "yoga sciences," "ayurvedic medical treatment," "biodynamic restaurants," golf, tennis and "a wide range of health-driven activities." Steingart doesn't expect Veria to rely on borrowing to finance the project because the owner of the parent company is Indian media mogul Subhash Chandra, whose worth is $2.4 billion, making him one of the richest people in the world. Recently, the hotel has been branded as The New Kutsher's Resort and leased to Yossi Zablocki. Brothers Louis and Max Kutsher began the business in 1907. For the next century the historic resort transformed itself from a rooming house to a 400-room year-round resort with a golf course and, at one time, a sports academy. Much of the hotel's development in the last half-century was overseen by Milton and Helen Kutsher, and later their son, Mark Kutsher, who took the reins in the early 1990s and helped guide the resort to its new ownership. Milton Kutsher died in 1998. Helen Kutsher, considered the matriarch of the Catskills, died this past March.

I just came back from the last two UK ones. Pontins was no comparison for Kutschers, so it's extra sad that they're closing up shop for good. They'll still be doing IBYM in the UK, and they'll be doing some new events all over the world. I talked to some people that hinted strongly at ATP Brazil and ATP Berlin, among others, being strong possibilities this year. Also, sadly, those were the last festivals that jamie_atp worked with them for.

Andy was a cool guy when he warmed up to you, and its great to hear that he is hearing good news about ATP US. In the meantime, I suppose I'm booking my Iceland tickets

I was at Pontin's last December. That place was more sad than fun. Maybe if it wasn't ATP but instead a weekend long acid trip and I was 19 it might have been more interesting. Instead it's just a dump of a resort that hasn't been updated in any way in a very long time. I'm still wondering why they bothered having a fest that small at such a remote and inconvenient location. When something is that far out it gives the impression it's going to be special. Not the case with the ATP currated by The National last December.

Today ATP is proud to announce Portishead and Interpol as the first headline acts for ATP Iceland 2014. Neither act has performed in the country before, and ATP Iceland is very happy to be the first to bring them over.

ATP founder Barry Hogan “Portishead have a rich history and close relationship with us, which started with them curating ATP back in 2007 after a long live-hiatus and being the first ever curators for the I'll Be Your Mirror series. Interpol on the other hand, while being long-time ATP favourites, have never played the event, and it’s an exciting prospect that the eagerly awaited second Icelandic ATP will be their first.”

Portishead headline July 11th and Interpol headline July 12th alongside Icelandic acts Sóley, For a Minor Reflection, Samaris, Low Roar, and Mammút. Over the coming weeks, we have a large selection of international and Icelandic acts to be revealed as well.

ATP Iceland is also expanding into a takeover week of events starting on July 7th in Reykjavík, with live concerts, an ATP recordings showcase, art exhibitions, an ATP store, DJs and film screenings leading into the festival which starts on July 10th at Ásbrú (former NATO base) in Keflavík (details to be announced soon).

Damn. Damn. Portishead, Mogwai, Slowdive, Shellac, Swans, Loop, Liars, Fuck Buttons, Ben Frost, Haxan Cloak, and Pharmakon at the same fest would be quite the incredible ear bleeding experience. Hopefully they have Low playing the last set so you can get the ringing out of your ears, or I guess the first so you can actually hear them at all.

Crazy good lineup. I should mention I saw Loop earlier this week, they were really good and loud.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

Saw LOOP last night in Vancouver. Cool show with only 85 fans present in a 300 capacity club. The loudest guitar I've ever heard in a club and ALL of it was coming from his one amp - the house PA only had voice and drums and everything was from the stage.

I don't even know their stuff that well, But went to help with a 3-4 way conflict at Primavera 2 weeks from now.

I wonder if Neil Young is going come out for Deep Water or how I probably miss a potential moment where Neil Young is actually harassing a drunk me at ATP to buy a Pono. "Guys, Neil Young would not leave me alone unless I signed up for his porno".
