Default ATP US festivals 2014 and beyond

At Son Lux last night I spoke to Andy who many ATP NY-area folks will recognize as head (?) of security for all of the area festival incarnations (and many other shows around NYC). He said that they are working on planning a new one, looking at Long Island this time where they could go back to more of the holiday camp-type vibe after the problems of the in-city attempt. I don't know LI that well but I totally buy that there could be the right style of resort/hotel/venue clusters that would make a great off-season spot. Not necessarily 2014 but they are not abandoning the market.

He also mentioned a related (?) event is coming back (for 2014) but right now I am blanking on what that is.

I'd probably commit to this without a lineup.

Considering we'd all at least get one other person to go along with this, I believe a presale is in order.

    What was wrong with Kutsher's?

I heard that Kutsher's was a shit hole.

I'm really hoping for an ATP event in the States next year - have never been to one.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

Asbury Park was a weekend that will never be forgotten. You couldn't ask for a better setting for a lineup like that.

Kutsher's was a little run down, yes. But for me, that was part of the charm. My understanding was that the real reason they did not return to Kutsher's was that they had difficulty getting enough people to travel up to Monticello to actually make money.

He said the problem with Asbury Park was that that town did not like having the event there.

Long Island seems like a good move. Hopefully something easily reached via the LIRR.

Really? Because of Shepard Fairey's Street art or because they can't stand money being pumped into their local economy? I talked to some guy there who worked security and they said that Tiesto had just been there and they throw all kinds of other shows. What fuckin say does the town have in a production like that in a private venue. Somebody must've bitched about not finding a parking spot to walk their terrier up and down the boardwalk or something.

They've just canned all the holiday park type stuff here. Who knows what goes through their minds.

I still think ATP Bakersfield or ATP Fresno would have to be easy money. Everyone flies into LAX or SFO and then does the 2.5-3 hour drive. Not much worse than Kutsher's travelwise from a major city and it would have to be like 1/10th the cost to rent a place out.

ATPulp, because they were approached in 2011 for Jersey and are too big to do it in their own country. And the lineups of events they've curated in the past have been ace...

    Jarvis-curated Meltdown 2007:
    Iggy & The Stooges
    Devo
    The Jesus and Mary Chain
    Motorhead
    John Barry + London Phil
    Cornershop
    Roky Erikson
    Clinic
    Sunn O)))
    Saint Etienne
Disney tribute show feat. Jarvis Cocker, Nick Cave, Grace Jones, Pete Doherty, Shane Macgowan, Beth Orton, etc
    Littl'ans
    Scout Niblett
    Selfish Cunt
    Melanie Safka
    Auto 2002:
James Yorkstone, Royksopp, The Bees, Baxter Dury,
Lemon Jelly, Schneider TM, Zngamin, The Kills, Erland Oye,
Jamie Lidell, Four Tet, Capitol K, Leafcutter John,
Simian Mobile Disco, i Monster, Optimo djs, Warp djs,
    LFO aka Mark Bell, etc
Plus countless past and pending collaborations with the likes of Steve Albini, Scott Walker (not that he'd play, but a Tilting & Drifting style set loaded with guests would be ace), Air, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Summer Camp, Beck, Richard Hawley, James Murphy, Smog, etc.
