I'm either swinging this and a trip to another city to see Nisennenmondai or this and the Porto edition, depending on how that lineup turns out.

They don't have to get a top to bottom dance card like this, though. That's the point I keep making. 1-2 more niche/forward thinking acts per day would be a vast improvement over the steady onslaught of overexposed club favorites.

    Geez what a solid line-up.

Kinda bums me out thinking how much $$$ was spent on:
Skrillex, Foster the People, Ellie Goulding, Calvin Harris, Zedd, Girl Talk.

    And not:
Deafheaven, Moderat, Volcano Choir, Slowdive, and Television. Would have cost, I don't know, like half of the aforementioned group right?

Nice touch with Kronos Quartet and Sun Ra Arkestra.

And on the non-dance music front: The Drive By Truckers, The War on Drugs, Pond, Colin Stetson, Glasser, Body/Head, Sharon van Etten, Television, Loop, Courtney Barnett, St. Vincent, Spoon, Shellac, Deafhaven, Slowdive.

It's hard to reconcile that with Cage the Elephant, Bastille, City and Colour, The Head and the Heart, Daughter, MS MR, White Lies etc

Coachella is a joke compared to this. It's amazing to see what the potential could have been.

Daughter shouldn't be grouped with those.

And yeah, this definitely tops Coachella's lineup.

Sadly, I'd reconcile it by saying Coachella has a different demographic now.

I feel like I'll never get to go. I'd be totally cool with this being the only fest I could go to every year. This lineup is everything I want in a lineup. Really well rounded, hits all my musical obsessions with tons of rare acts I'd kill to see. This one sets the world wide standard again and again and this lineup is no different.

That's still a lazy explanation, though, because there could certainly still be a balance of different acts for different crowds. Also, Coachella has reached the apex where it is going to sell out no matter what.

Which makes one wonder why they did such a lazy job booking the undercard this year.

    December 31 - Matthew Dear/The Sword/Pallbearer
    January 30 - Behemoth
    February 3 - Zola Jesus
    February 10 - 1349
February 28 - A Place To Bury Strangers
    April 6 - Swans
    April 10-12 - Coachella
    April 17 - Clark/Nosaj Thing
May 8-10 - Austin Psych Fest
    May 15-17 - Psycho California
    June 24-28 - Glastonbury

Lazy job booking, or bands just aren't in the area/available at the time?

Also if it is guaranteed to sell out why worry about it. They could just throw an exact replica of Lolla 2010 and no one would care

I don't have much problem with Coachella pulling in Chromeo. Primavera booked Chromeo as well. But I get the point you are making. It seems Coachella is a year or two behind on the Yuma bookings.

My problem more lies with booking niche acts in genres that won't be relevant in a few years (i.e, Carnage, Flosstradamus, UZ), bringing back Dillon Francis and Girl Talk and booking so many of these mid-level electro acts (Headhunterz, Krewella) that pander to a terrible crowd. It would be nice to see Andy Stott and Vatican Shadow on the Coachella lineup instead of "DJ's" like TJR or Gareth Emery.

But outside of the dance card, there isn't much for me on this lineup that I haven't seen or have much desire to see.
    fuck.

You're an idiot. Saying Coachella's lineup is better than this is laughable. 4 acts do not a good lineup make. This is solid through the entire undercard, whereas Coachella just throw you a couple of bones and then booked bullshit for the rest of the lineup.

Keep in mind too, Primavera is not intended to be an electronic music oriented festival at all. There is an actual electronic music festival in the same city two weeks later (Sonar).

Edit: I'm considering if there is any way I can possibly go to this and Sonar. Decisions to make...

I wish I had decisions like yours to make Chia I'm sure you'll have a blast at either fest, but my heart leans more towards Sonar.

Well, I'm not certain I can do either (let alone both). I've been to Sonar the last two years, and it's a solid festival, but if I had to pick, it probably would be Primavera. I've been waiting close to 20 years to see Slowdive.

I'm certain I am "allowed" to do it work wise, I just don't want to think about how pricey it would be.

The only downside to this line up is that there is not as much heavy stuff as there usually is, but that is a very small complaint

Honestly, the tour schedules for those bands don't really make sense for them to be at Coachella this year. Deafheaven and Touche Amore are both involved with extensive US tours tours right now that soon have L.A. dates, and Kvelertak was in the US not long ago and is touring Europe currently.
