Black Bananas' Electric Brick Wall is the most unique sounding album to come out of Burger Records in some time. I'm a big fan of the label, but am the first to admit that a lot of their output (for as energetic and fun as it is) can be very same-y sounding. But this really has an identity all its own, while still having some of that sound that a lot of the other bands have. Real good stuff.

EDIT: nevermind, looks like the album came out on Drag City. Not sure what made me think it was Burger.

    Nice, will check that out.

Chet Faker's and Sohn's albums have been fucking me up the last few days. Brilliant stuff.

I am just finishing How To Dress Well's What is this Heart? - I was pretty worried during the first track, but as the album progresses it gets really fucking good. The lo fi aesthetic of his early albums is gone (i am not sure if I missed an album or 2), but there is still a lot of experimentation and a lot of different kinds of things going on.

The new OOIOO album is stellar. It's definitely got some of that Vision Creation Newson trance-inducingness, not the same or as frenetic but some of it's there.

And as much shit as I give Pitchfork, they do unearth bands that I otherwise might not come across - that White Reaper EP they reviewed the other night is fantastic. Just a big blast of energy from front to back. Check that one out.

Like Everyday Robots, Sun Kil Moon's Benji didn't resonate with me when I first heard it (I just couldn't get into his delivery), but have done a 180 since then. Really sad, beautiful record. Looking forward to seeing him at Fun Fun Fun.

I've seen several mentions of Sturgill Simpson's new record as "experimental" or "psychedelic" country...and, for the most part, it's not. The second to last track, It Ain't All Flowers, definitely is all of that - there are quite a few sounds and textures he uses that are really forward-thinking for that genre, a really good track. And the rest of the album is good. But aside from that one song it's a very straightforward country album.

Lyrically I thin that it's very odd and out, but yeah, it's a very good trad country album most of the time.

I thought it was Outlaw Country ...

I finally made it through a listen of Sun Kil Moon - Benji and had put it on maybe 4 times til I could finally feel mentally like, "just fuck it just let this guy blabber on" while I'm doing paperwork . "Dogs" is a great track and liked that song a lot on my first listen. I don't think I'll change my feelings that it's no more than just a good album but just a lot of the same tone, same blabber. I'll give some more listens but I do a lot better of making it through the album when I skipped the first track.

Everyone should listen to Posse's Soft Opening... fucking great, wow. One of the very few 2014 releases that have really clicked with me. Very nice Summertime jams, with lush guitars and laid back vocals, yet their songwriting chops are actually damn good. They really remind me of Yo La Tengo or Pavement when they were on their softer side (i.e., Range Life). Also some Real Estate vibes, but a lot less boring.
I hate just name dropping bands that sound similar, but I realized it works the best when trying to convince people to check out a new band.

This Popcaan record is undeniably infectious. I've been listening to it non-stop since it leaked. Really fun jamaican dancehall.

I also loved Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks. Another really catchy album, although perhaps a little less immediate.

Lil B's Hoop Life might be his best project since Blue Flame.

I don't understand the love for the new Lykke Li album. I try to avoid using the word, "boring" as a criticism of music I don't like, but that's all I can come up with. Not a fan of her new direction.

Oh, awesome! It's definitely mine as well. I read a comment somewhere that "they're doing what quite a few other indie bands are doing, but they're doing it a lot better." I think that's exact.

My most anticipated 2014 release is hopefully a new Joanna Newsom record. Other than that it's definitely Titus Andronicus and Panda Bear's new one. Some others that will prolly be great... The New Pornographers, Grimes, Belle & Sebastian, Ty Segall, Shellac, and Shabazz Palaces.

    EDIT_ That's good news! ^

Sea Wolf's "kickstarter" album is on Spotify, now!
So far, it's mostly instrumental... interesting....
The last song is 9 minutes, maybe that's where it all happens?

EDIT 2_ UGH, my work computer is weird; I have to have my ear buds plugged in JUST RIGHT. That's why I could only here half of it. Oy vey.
    It is not instrumental.

My list is Shellac, Joanna Newsom and The Wrens. Assuming the latter two happen this year.
