Has the Protomartyr album been discussed much yet? It's really fantastic...it kind of builds this noisy post-punk room for itself and works within that without straying much for most of the album. Detractors might cast it off as too same-y sounding, but it does what it does really well.
    9/17 - Buzzcocks - Fonda (?)

    9/21 - Caetano Veloso - Hollywood Bowl (?)
9/26 - William Basinski - Pasadena Arts Council
    9/28 - Bob Mould - Roxy (?)

Ha! Yeah I hadn't heard of it at that time. Noticed it on ragepatton's best-of list and gave it a spin.

"Pour Cyril" on How To Dress Well's new one is a really striking moment on an album with plenty of them. It's quite pleasant when the clipped distortion similar to that of Love Remains flows over the symphonic arrangement near the end. Great stuff.

I listened to a little of it, but I didn't like the lead singer's voice - he sounds like he just woke up. Maybe if my library gets it I'll listen to the whole thing.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

I just listened to the new A Sunny Day in Glasgow's Sea When Absent, I really like their past material and this is no disappointment on first listen, they belong to the shoegaze/dream-pop and slightly noisy albeit very light, fizzy and easy to listen. My favorite album of theirs is 2009's Ashes Grammar, I remember the first time I listened to that record I couldn't remember any particular song because the tracks kept evolving, changing paces, rhythms and effects within the songs, so it took me some spins before I could really digest everything. I'm sure this will be the same process for this new album, definitely check them out if you're into Asobi Seksu, Cocteau Twins, Lush, etc.

Has anybody listened to any good hip-hop/rap albums this year? I realized I haven't listened to any and could use some.

This Dave Aju is a.) his best work to date b.) one of the best house albums I've heard in ages (even if it isn't always strictly house) and c.) one of my favorites of the year after only two listens.

I have been reading a lot of good stuff about this album and went into it completely unfamiliar with who he is or what he even sounded like. Man, you weren't kidding here. This album is pretty fantastic and one of the most unconventional house records I have ever heard. "Psylica" is easily one of the best tracks I have heard all year.

I liked Dave Aju's latest on the first couple listens but still think Heirlooms was better but maybe I need to give it another go as the favorite songs listed so far were not the ones I had tagged. Either way good to see him get more exposure.

I was really pump up to listen to their new album today on my way home from Napa since I saw that it was Best in New Music and was disappointed enough to turn it off after a couple tracks.

Haven't gotten around to the new record yet, but I really fucking like their previous releases, even if I don't give them enough listens.

I tried listening to this at work yesterday and had to turn it off. It is so grating, I found myself getting angrier the longer I listened to it. I don't remember the last time an album actually made me angry.

It's so good. One of the best of the year for sure.

Just listened to Ab Soul's newest today. Really surpasses Schoolboy's last album... It's on another level. "Ride Slow" is such a great track

Hey. Huge, huge high five for this one. One of the best albums I've heard so far this year. It definitely has remnants of those bands you mentioned, but not in a blatant copying kind of way at all. If anything, this record sounds like Stereolab at times, Broadcast at times, but doing Sergio Mendes covers. Very fitting album title. I absolutely loved it, and likely would not have heard of it at all if not for your post.

Loving The Antlers Familiars on first listen - retains the chill angsty drama of their earlier work, but set to this cool brassy dream pop bed, almost a Beirut crossed with In Rainbows feel to lot of it.
The Replacements - Bryan Ferry - Outkast - The Knife - Dum Dum Girls - Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Broken Bells - Haim - Neko Case - Jagwar Ma - Goat - Waxahatchee

Queens Of The Stone Age - Pet Shop Boys - Chvrches - Mogwai - Warpaint - Washed Out - Future Islands - Ty Seagall - Darkside - Foxygen

Beck - Neutral Milk Hotel - Superchunk - Arcade Fire - Bombino - Daughter - Surfer Blood

Circulatory System's new one is absolutely fantastic. Pretty much everything there is to love about the band, done well but not as a retread.

And yeah that new Dave Aju is great too.
