Default Tell Us About 2014 Releases

Black Lips are finish with a new album and plan to release it early 2014.

some of the Daptone guys put horns on a few songs, and Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds contributed pedal steel and some guitars, including a lead guitar part he wrote for one song.

"Bradford [Cox of Deerhunter] was supposed to come, but he never showed up," Swilley says. "He kept saying he was gonna come by, but he never did. He blew it."

Please change title to "Links to Announcements About Bands Releasing Albums in 2014," because this is awful.

I'm always irritated when a thread that's the home for us to discuss our opinions of released albums and share recommendations is cluttered up with "news" of an album coming up in the near or distant future. I really do wish there were separate threads for that kind of stuff -- I don't personally enjoy the board becoming some music news aggregate, but if it's got to be that way, can't we at least have a place for that shit?

That's pretty surprising, given that we are six weeks away from Christmas and everything.

Why? Albums are often anticipated months and months ahead of time. Why is it fine to anticipate a July 2013 album in January 2013 but not a March 2014 album in November 2013? Seems arbitrary.

A more fitting thread title would be Tell Us About 2014 Releases (That You've Listened To). We've kinda decided over time that's what we want these to be.

Mogwai's new releases are always hard to judge on first release because they really do work in such a self-referential and miniscule frame that their best work and worst work is mostly defined by nuance, but on gut feeling after first listen to Rave Tapes is that it's really damn good. It has more synth and beauty than any release since Happy Songs for Happy People, which is either my first or second favorite 'gwai album depending on the day. It also reminds me the most of that one in a good way. I will definitely be spending quite a bit more time with it, as it has the feel of a spectacular winter record.

Heard the new Warpaint album a couple times and it was ace. They've really mastered the hypnotic aspect of their sound, and the album has a couple surprises in it, too. Can't wait to hear it again in a less social environment.

Rave Tapes could just end up being my favorite Mogwai album. Two listens through and I feel like it's been something in their discography that I've known for years. "The Lord is Out of Control" is a quintessential Mogwai track.

The new Mogwai record didn't really take on first listen. Definitely will be on heavy rotation though.
