I just finished the first of three meetings today to each shed 1/3 of my responsibilities and my employees to other people. I’ve accepted a new position, starting next Monday completely outside of finance and outside of the business units I’ve supported for the past eight years. As of last Friday, I hadn’t even known this opportunity existed yet. It’s scary how quick it’s all going down.

Not totally sure if it's a promotion or not until I talk to our HR partners, but I'm very excited to take the new role (Corporate Strategy & Initiatives). My old role will be ramping down in about 6 months, so I'd have to find something then anyways, so early is good, and I can't imagine finding something this good internally.

I've decided I hate my job so much I'm going to start studying for the LSAT so I can go to law school. Congratulations, universe.

Right? It's definitely better than it was when I graduated college two years ago and decided not to go, though. I've decided I won't go unless I can get an LSAT score high enough to enter a program that will guarantee a career.

As you know it's hard for me to express my thoughts coherently on this board, but I'll do my best without being long winded. I graduated college with my degree in Poli-Sci with minors in Legal Studies and Econ (an education plan tailored for law school). I have pretty good technical skills and so I've gotten myself into a job testing software/hardware for a horribly mismanaged company that works in RFID technology. My boss has all the symptoms of someone who is bipolar, has zero professional etiquette, and is running my department into the ground. Sometimes we'll mess something up and she'll play music and start dancing, other times she will belittle my coworkers and I by yelling at us on and off for hours. All she does is talk about how she was wrongly convicted of domestic violence and her divorce. And while this job has the potential to be super cool, as RFID technology is fascinating and really at the tip of its proverbial iceberg - due to horrible mismanagement of time and resources we are basically moving at a crawl.
Law school because I have always had a knack for formal logic, syllogisms, proofs, the like and possess what I consider great research, writing, public speaking, and debate skills. I also truly do believe that this country's criminal justice system is doing a huge disservice to disenfranchised/underrepresented cultures and would like to try and help remedy that.
TL;DR My boss wears her crazy pants and I'm good at sudoku.

Sheldorrr, do NOT go to law school unless you actually, really want to be a lawyer. And even then, think long and hard before you do it.

I went to one of the most affordable schools in the country, received scholarship help, and I have had full, decent employment since I graduated. Apart from the small handful of people who start out with associate positions at top law firms (not something I ever wanted to do, or probably could have done even if I had wanted to), I am pretty much your best case scenario financially. And even given that, I will still be paying student loans for the next twenty years.

Thanks for the input! I do want to, too. And I think I might make a halfway decent one at that. What type of law are you practicing?

Just got told to remove naked baby picture from my cubicle. The baby in question is not older than six months old, and the picture itself is 44 years old.

And....the roulette wheel for my new position landed in NYC. I'll be spending about 40% of my time in midtown Manhattan through at least September. Now, if only there was a comprehensive list of NY shows around here....
