Thread: Grounds expansion?

  1. #1

    Default Grounds expansion?

Hey, didn't somebody dig up a permit for a big expansion of the Coachella grounds last year that was supposed to be in effect for 2014? I think a large chunk of land to the right of the Outdoor? Am I making this up, and is it reasonable to expect a bigger festival grounds this year? After last year, I think we could definitely use a little bit more space...

more tickets sold= more piss and puke outside of designated piss/puke areas.

Yeah i remember seeing this as well.. curious as to what you would put back there. Its space, but not "stage" space. I guess maybe a larger YUMA, which wouldnt be too bad. Also heard it was for some fireworks display... ya.. anyways... I think it would be nice to have a bit more room. The area where the food is now made a ton of difference between 2010 and 2011.

The Outdoor will be nestled back into that nook to make for more room in the viewing area for the Outdoor. Heard it here first.

Would actually alleviate a lot of the worst congestion, and provide more space to move the Do-Lab away from the Gobi...but the angle for viewing from the outdoor would be rough. I really hope they don't increase the capacity, because it is verging on too crowded as it is, but let's be real...

They already are increasing capacity. It's in the plans filed with the city. This expansion is a big part of how they're gonna do it without ruining things. And I agree, it will really help with congestion

I don't see why Tollet doesn't just move the Do Lab to where the Yuma is, and put the Yuma where the Do Lab always is

I don't know about you guys (and I know it's unrealistic) but I would love to see a second main stage or just another stage period.

Fking haters. Why not just turn the music levels down in the Do Lab, to accommodate other stages and their audiences (aka importance). The Do Lab is unessential, but it's also pretty nice.

Turn the Do-Lab into a town hall like area for Coachella goers to air their grievances of or express their love for the Do-Lab. OVER A RUMBLING BASSLINE.

Making it angrier would definitely make it less annoying.

Because all the people who would normally spend time at the DoLab would just disappear and not annoy anyone anywhere else.

That tribal drum and bass crap is exactly what I would expect most of the northern California group to appreciate about the Do Lab. It's the hippiest, grossest place on-site. You can almost see all the fat shirtless dudes in leather kilts with dreads and their naked swindler snake-eyed girlfriends down by the river with their jerry garcia band playlists on their ipods and a remnant of some long lost drum circle lingering in their thoughts as you make your way through the Do Lab, from A to B. Are you guys really ready to give that up?

Capacity is only being increased by about 5,000 and, given the expansion of the grounds, I doubt you'll really notice it.

That's basically negligible in terms of capacity increase, nice. Excited to see how stages shift (since it seems to be the outdoor shifting). I always thought the worst clusterfuck (outside of Sahara, but I only went there for Prydz) was between the main/outdoor anyway, especially if popular acts were playing on both stages. Trying to run back to our campsite Friday when Of Monsters and Men/Passion Pit were playing was intense. Seems like the expansion will probably help this.
