Default Rodrigo y Gabriela and Travis

Hey I just wanted to say that last night I went to the kcrw sounds eclectic evening and I discovered two bands that I knew about just never knew they were so great live. these bands were Travis and Rodrigo y Gabriela. I thought they out-played all of the others there including the shins, lily allen, the cold war kids, breakestra, and bitter:sweet. I just wanted to input my opinion in a thread form as both of these bands are at coachella, and are now a "can't miss" for me. thought you might check them out.

    edit:

So Travis were really good though?
I have debating whether to check them out or not. I guess it will all depend on conflicts.

I know Travis isn't the cool band to like anymore, but I saw them in 2001 when they were touring in support of The Invisible Band. It was a fantastic set – far more energetic than you'd think from their albums. Having done the festival circuit in the U.K. for years and knowing how to play to that kind of crowd, my guess is they're going to deliver a terrific show at Coachella.

Yes they were very good. and the lead is hilarious. they came on after rodrigo y gabriela, and he said "well coming on after those incredible guitar players makes me nervous. and then they played that stairway to heaven! I was in the back slipping the noose over my head."(not even close to the exact quote but it was something like that)

also you could tell they had been playing together for a while as everything was right on key. it was very good. but it was strange, they had a drummer who just sat on the ground and played a light beat that was more or less the same with the occasional high hat. none the less they were spectacular.

The Invisible Band is their one album I really dig actually. The rest of their music kind of bores me. I dont really know why, I guess thier albums arent that different. The Invisible Band just really grabbed me. I can't explain it.

Travis are a definite must-see for me as well. I sorta grew burned out of them a few years ago on account of seeing them live every single time they'd be in town. And that includes in-stores, seeing them as the opening act, as well as regular gigs. I sort of got Travis overload. But time has passed and I'm missing them once more.

As far as them no longer being the "cool to like" band anymore. I say f**k that. A good band is a good band regardless of the sycophantic vampiric scenesters who leech onto groups on account of them being new and unknown in order to sap their coolness for themselves. Then when they're no longer unknown they drop them like the accessory that's no longer hip to wear now. F**k those people to hell. Music is not an accessory to aggrandize oneself. But I suppose in a festival like Coachella, these types are inevitable. They'll be there and bitching about how Coachella sold out and about how Boneroo is better or their time in London or something that'll show their jet-setting creds. Thankfully we won't have to suffer them at the Travis performance anymore. There's no scenester coolness to sap there anymore apparently.

To anyone who saw the Rodrigo y Gabriela show we are talking about...
Did they play their cover of Metallica's Orion? It is my favorite Metallica song and their version sounds sooooo damn good!
I see they played Stairway, but what about Orion? Im just curious if they will play it at Coachella. I hope so.
    Thanks!

    Note to self:
Do not play Guitar Hero against Rodrigo or Gabriela

Rodrigo y Gabriela are an awesome live band, one of the best I saw last year. I caught their first san francisco appearance ever, and then their subsequent show... fantastic! the crowd went crazy for them.

And yeah they do do 1 or 2 metallica songs and they do stairway to heaven too, all in a kindof flamenco style of course

I love Travis but that is somewhat of a hyperbole.
