They'll keep recycling the headliners from the past few years. Every time I see a lineup of US FESTIVALS THESE DAYS, I think of Bonnaroo '06, Coachella '04/'06/'07 or Lolla '07 or '08 and it seems disappointing. Those years, the festival bar was raised too high (in a good way) and it's impossible to match it.

    My guess:
    Kanye West
    Kings of Leon
    Arcade Fire
    Eminem
Some band like Mumford who I never listened to

    11/24 Interpol @ T5
    11/26 Joris Voorn @ Output
    11/28 & 29 Time Warp
    11/30 Run the Jewels @ Stage 48

The golden age of festivals was Radiohead, Daft Punk, and Bjork. We are just here to sort through the detritus of history.

So with that recent Justin Timberlake rumor, I'm calling:

    Justin Timberlake
    Depeche Mode
    Kings of Leon
    Neil Young & Crazy Horse
    Avicii
    Arctic Monkeys (?)

Don't be surprised if Bruno Mars turns up top 3. Think what you want but he is a young/fresh headliner that has filled arena around the country.

Grant Park is actually not a concrete jungle, its more than just a parking lot. There's actually a fountain if you've ever been there, along with some other neat things

Yes, you all are right. Lolla is not a parking lot, and is horrible for plenty of other reasons besides the location.

Wow, Lolla hate snobbery. As someone who's been to Lolla, Coachella, Roo, ACL and a half dozen others, I don't get it. The weather last year was the best festival weather I've ever experienced, and it's usually not much high than the mid to high 80's, even on a bad year. The truth is that the average high is 84 for all the possible Lolla days. Since 2009 (the year I started going and haven't missed a year) I don't recall ever seeing temperatures above low 90's. Is that so terrible?

    http://www.weather.com/weather/wxcli...5?climoMonth=8

The only year in the past 5 that disappointed me with the lineup was 2011. Terrible lineup.

Possibilities being thrown around the Lolla boards for top quarter of the lineup, in no particular order:

    Metallica
    Outkast
    Kings of Leon
    Jack Johnson
    The Strokes
    Beck
    Foster the People
    Calvin Harris
    Justin Timberlake
    Skrillex
    Arctic Monkeys
    Spoon
    The Black Keys
    fun.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

Lots of good possibilities mixed with shitty ones. The truth will probably be somewhere in the middle. No real confirmations yet. As usual, we'll probably get some hints mid-late March, with a lineup drop in early to mid April.

man the headliners were really great last year. I'm not expecting to get that every year. but shit, all the festivals are recycling the fuck out of the headliners this year.

hopefully lolla has something up its sleeve because they owned coachella last year.

Not sure how you can say having The Cure, Mumford, NIN, The Killers, QOTSA, The National, Kendrick, and The Lumineers is owning Blur, Stone Roses, RCHP, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse, Lou Reed (wish he had been there), Nick Cave and Grinderman, XX, Sigur Ros, Wu Tang Clan, and Eric Prydz.

You know timing is one of the main things that plays a part. If the band isnt available, what do you do? And since Timberlake and Outkast are locks, what are you expecting for the other 4 headliners? Katy Perry just missed playing at Lolla by the look of her tour dates, is that the kinda shit you want?

JT isn't necessarily a lock at this point. By August, he will have played Chicago several times over the year before. I wouldn't even say Outkast is a lock either. Lots of options is all we've got a the moment. The only band I could probably say with any degree of assurance is probably Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. That's just because they have no Chicago date despite having a full tour that ends the week before in Toronto.

I don't disagree. RHCP was a pretty shitty headliner though, and they played Lolla the year before. And you said it, Lou wasn't there. But Lolla got shit day of the decade Saturday. I didnt even bother to stop by the South stage that day in hope that I wouldn't get sucked into the asshole vortex created by the Lumineers and Mumford at the same stage. Coachella is usually the better festival. Two of my favorite shows of all time were at Coachella, Grinderman and PJ Harvey.

However, we've said this far too many times: the festivals target different demographics. Lolla has no camping, is cheaper, etc. I just go to both when they are good.

They are nearly a lock with that announcement. They are a really easy match being a 90's band, and you know a Chicago festival will get them. Lolla has the most cash out of the pack, so I'm expecting to see them there in August.

Is Outkast now out of the running?

Seems odd to book a Threepeat(?) Kanye over a one time Outkast, whether it's in Chicago or not.

I still think there is about a 50-50 chance that Outkast plays. If they don't the only explanation I can think of is Lolla booked their headliners before Outkast decided to reunite.
