    Default Hawaii advice...

Hey...I realize this is far from Coachella-related, but I'm in the middle of trying to plan a honeymoon for this summer, and was thinking about hittin Hawaii...though I've never been there and have no idea really where to go there or what to do. So far I'm leaning toward Kauai, but if anyone has been there and has advice PLEASE let me know ASAP. Never realized travel choices could be so mind boggling...

Congrats SubBass! I didn't realize you are getting married this summer. That's exciting.

I have family that lives in Honolulu, and I lived there for a bit, so I know something about Hawaii. I actually haven't visited Kauai -- only Oahu, Maui and the Big Island. But Kauai is supposed to be awesome. It's less developed than some of the other islands, so it's super outdoorsy and good for hiking and that sort of stuff, from what I understand. It's not so good if you want lots of fancy restaurants and shopping.

I dunno. Let me know if there's anything specific I can help you out with.

go to kuai if you want something a little more romantic (ie. no packed beaches, etc)

i went two years ago and it was stunning....make sure to take a helicopter tour too - amazing
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.

Maui and Kuai for sure. Both are incredibly beautiful with nice beaches. Kuai is very peaceful, no families and all the screaming kids.

I don't remember Honalulu as I was only there as a baby, but I would give the Big Island a miss, unless you are into the Volcano on the Hani(I think) side. We didn't actually go up on that side but I heard it's a lot more lush and more interesting than the Kona side. Kona was packed with families and the lava rock landscape was quite ugly.

    Congrats on getting married.

Oahu has non-packed beaches as well. You just have to be smart and not be a worthless pigeon-holed tourist that never leaves Waikiki.

On the North Shore, there are several beaches that are completely void of life for most of the day. There are others that have little activity, some with moderate activity, and some uber-packed like Wakikik [W bay comes to mind]. Not sure if you play golf, but you may want to think about if there are any courses at all in Kauai if you do.

And you might want to visit more than one island. Island-hopping isn't expensive at all.

Yeah...I'm more into the less touristy areas...When I travel in Mexico, I prefer the laid back areas like San Felipe...so if Kauai is that sort of place I'm sure I'll love it. I'm into good food, but not necessarily expensive or fancy food, so as long as there's good eats there I'll be happy.

Bartelby...when you went to Kauai where did you stay? Right now I'm looking at the Hilton just north of the airport, but I hear the east side of the island is more rainy than the south & west...I'd prefer less rain if possible. Any advice?

Hawaii is like the next place in the U.S. I want to visit.

I really want to go to Dubai though. I've been wanting to, I'm not just jumping on the lounge bandwagon.

Ugh haha, I was a Geophysics major at UTEP last semester (I switched to Anthropology), and Halliburton used to hang around us all the time. Trying to get us to join their empire as their lackeys of oil hunting. They tried tempting us with things like Dubai vacations all the time.

Dubai isn't really that much fun to visit on a normal person's budget, because everything is so expensive.

If I ever go, I am going with my friend from Jordan. She claims that she knows all the good things going on in Dubai. She even goes so far to claim that Dubai is better than New York City... and I love New York City.

If she doesn't bleed in red, white and blue, then she's a terrorist.

Turn her in to homeland sec and we'll have her in gitmo for years in no time.
