It's almost certain the tour will continue beyond these three shows, but Stinson is mum on details – "We'll see," is all he says on the subject. The band hasn't revealed who will play with Westerberg and Stinson, either, though we know it won't be original drummer Chris Mars. He left the band in 1990 and is now a visual artist with no apparent interest in returning to his old gig. "We didn't speak to Chris because we knew the answer before we even asked – he'd say 'no,'" says Stinson. "We're currently working out who's gonna fill what shoes." (Also unclear: Whether or not there will be a new 'Mats album. "We're not sure if we're gonna do anything with any of [the new recordings]," Stinson says.)

Though mega-festivals like Coachella had been offering what Stinson called "silly money,"
the Replacements opted for the relatively under-the-radar Riot Fest. "We started talking to them in December," festival organizer Mike Petryshyn says. "As soon as it [was confirmed] we were in shock and awe. I had a little tear come to my eye. We're kind of numb right now." As for the money: "What we're paying them is pretty on par with other headliners," Petryshyn says. "It was pretty much what we can afford, and there was no back-and-forth with it."

Har Mar Superstar Joins the Replacements as Guitarist
Oddball popper began rehearsals with iconic band today

Har Mar Superstar will be playing guitar for the newly reformed Replacements. The news was reported on Thursday (June 20) by SPIN contributor Jessica Hopper, who tweeted, "Just confirmed it, he's not joking: @HarMarSuperstar is the new guitar player in the re-united Replacements." Soon after word got out, the Minnesota-bred songwriter posted the following tweet: "Heading into my first Mats rehearsal! Wish me luck. #ThisIsInsane".

The Minneapolis punk heroes recently announced that they'll take the stage for the first time in 22 years to headline Riot Fest 2013. The traveling showcase will hit three cities: Toronto (August 24 and 25), Chicago (September 13 to 15), and Denver (September 21 and 22). The Replacements' revived roster features frontman Paul Westerberg, bassist Tommy Stinson, and, now, Har Mar Superstar. It remains to be seen if former drummer Chris Mars will rejoin.

The group's reunion was born out of recording sessions for this year's Songs for Slim EP. Westerberg and Stinson laid down four tracks in an effort to raise money for former 'Mats guitarist Slim Dunlap, who suffered a debilitating stroke in 2012. Mars contributed a fifth song to the collection separate from his onetime comrades. The short-player went up for auction back in January, and pulled in more than $100,000. The charity campaign has continued as a monthly split 7-inch series. The latest entry featured X's John Doe as well as Deer Tick with Vanessa Carlton and Local H's Scott Lucas.

As for Har Mar Superstar's recent activity, the man born Sean Tillmann released his fifth album, Bye Bye 17, earlier this year and also appeared on "Take the Lead," a track featured on Peninsula, the upcoming LP from Denver Dalley's Statistics solo project. He hosts a monthly interview podcast as well, Nocturnal Emotions, and toured last year with recent SPIN feature star Father John Misty.

I'm about 90% certain that it's a joke. Most people in these parts all think the same.
