I know it's popular to hate on this guy, but I recently listened to his album The Heist, and god damn is that a great hip hop album from start to finish. I fully support this guy at coachella.

I've listened to it. Still wasn't overly impressed. Not as bad as I thought, but still very bland in my opinion.

Wow, different strokes I guess. I thought it was pretty refreshing compared to all the shitty hip hop that comes out these days. Everybody was all up on the Kendrick Lamar album, but I think this one blows that away. I cant stand it when half the album is stupid skits like on maad city. He also has some really thoughtful lyrics in a few of his songs which I was not expecting either. And Ryan Lewis has made some incredible beats too, which is what really makes a great hip hop album if you ask me.

This is one of my favorite songs on there:

Love it when the brass band comes in! Helps if you close your eyes though and just listen, the video is kind of obnoxious, haha.

I remember when the Slim Shady LP came out, I had a similar reaction to "My Name Is" and was reluctant to give Eminem a shot. Then I listened to SSLP and was blown away. Unfortunately I didn't have the same reaction to The Heist. Some of it is alright but I found myself turned off overall.
    fuck.

I really enjoy listening to the Heist! This song is one of my favorites -
“Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.” - Albert Einstein
“Music is a safe kind of high" - Jimi Hendrix
“Music is the wine that fills the cup of silence.” - Robert Fripp
“Nothing separates the generations more than music. By the time a child is eight or nine, he has developed a passion for his own music that is even stronger than his passions for procrastination and weird clothes.” - Bill Cosby

I feel a bit queasy hearing Macklemore compared with Atmosphere.

No slight to Macklemore, I do like his album way more than Thrift Shop, but he isn't anywhere close to Atmosphere.

Their voices are very similar for sure, and they're both white, but it's not like he can control either of those things. I don't think he's trying to rip him off or anything. As far is who's better its way too early to tell, but I will say I like the heist just as much if not more than any atmosphere album. That's mostly due to Ryan Lewis I think though. His production is just so good.

Macklemore isn't in the same league as Atmosphere, he's a pretty cookie-cutter rap artist to me.

That's exactly why I called him an Atmosphere rip-off.

Don't get the Thrift Shop love, but first time I heard that Same Love track I was pretty hooked.

I'd rather see someone like Phonte, from Little Brother.

I think most can agree that we wanted to hate it more than we actually do. I don't particularly care for it, but the album is much better than I was expecting. Wouldn't be surprised to see him billed next year.

I would love to see macklemore. It's nice to hear a rap artist who you can understand and who raps about things other than sex drugs and big booty bitches.

This is exactly what all my white friends say and it makes me mad. There are plenty of rap artist that dont rap about that kind of stuff. When I try to show them another white rapper like Slug or Aesop Rock they dont like it because they can't dance to it. I hear the excuse "they dont rap about sex drugs or bitches so i like them" way too often. If you want a rapper like that go look for it and dont wait for a shitty one like Macklemore to come to you. I would take anyone from Rhymesayers over Macklemore any day.
