2013 has BLOWN 2012 out of the water for me. I seem to end up digging a lot more from odd-numbered years (2009 and 2011 were like this) than even-numbered years. Weird.

Way behind most of you..just starting to put my 2012 purchases to bed...but so far...

Push The Sky Away - Nick Cave & Light Up Gold - Parquet Courts are the only two albums that I'm enthusiastically recommending to friends.

Liking new Phosphorescent, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Mikal Cronin, Haxan Cloak, Daft Punk, Deerhunter, Patty Griffin, Ghostface Killah, Autre Ne Veut, Savages, Rhye and several others...but none of these albums are bona-fide knock-outs.

New National is decent but not as good as previous three.

My biggest deviation from the crowd (cue the outrage) is I'm not on the MBV bandwagon at all...only given it a couple of spins so far, but to date, haven't connected to it on any level...but there's been so much shoegaze and dream pop in recent years...just find myself bored with those genres as a whole at the moment, even when delivered by the all-time master.
The Replacements - Bryan Ferry - Outkast - The Knife - Dum Dum Girls - Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Broken Bells - Haim - Neko Case - Jagwar Ma - Goat - Waxahatchee

Queens Of The Stone Age - Pet Shop Boys - Chvrches - Mogwai - Warpaint - Washed Out - Future Islands - Ty Seagall - Darkside - Foxygen

Beck - Neutral Milk Hotel - Superchunk - Arcade Fire - Bombino - Daughter - Surfer Blood

If Light Up Gold counts as a 2013 release, you can add it to my list.

We're 2/3 into the year, and I'm having a lazy Saturday, so here are my favorites of 2013. I'll try to divide into tiers the best that I can. For context, I've listened to 65 albums this year. You're getting roughly the top half. I think this has been a very good year. Out of those 65 I mentioned, I think I only listened to 2 truly terrible albums (Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Travis). Everything else had some nice moments, but were likely just pretty uneven or mostly boring.

    1. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds – Push the Sky Away
    2. Nine Inch Nails – Hesitation Marks
    3. The Black Angels – Indigo Meadow
    4. The National – Trouble Will Find Me
    5. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Specter at the Feast
    6. Chelsea Wolfe – Pain Is Beauty
    7. Braids – Flourish // Perish
    -----
    8. Sigur Rσs – Kveikur
    9. The Joy Formidable – Wolf’s Law
    10. Foals – Holy Fire
    11. True Widow – Circumambulation
    12. Thee Oh Sees – Floating Coffin
    13. Ex-Wife – New Colors
    -----
    14. Blondes – Swisher
    15. Moderat – II
    16. Deerhunter – Monomania
    17. Ty Segall – Sleeper
    -----
    18. Drowner – You’re Beautiful, I Forgive You
    19. Disappears – Era
    20. The Men – New Moon
    21. How to Destroy Angels – Welcome Oblivion
    22. Savages – Silence Yourself
    23. The Besnard Lakes – Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO
    24. Local Natives – Hummingbird
    25. Pond – Hobo Rocket
    -----
    26. Disclosure – Settle
    27. The Flaming Lips – The Terror
    28. Marnie Stern – The Chronicles of Marnia
    29. No Age – An Object
    30. Neon Lights – LATE
    -----
    65. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Mosquito

You didn't like The Terror? I just started giving the Flaming Lips some listen time, and I found the Terror to be a good thing for them. The ratio of cheese, and purposely poor vocals got lowered in favor of good sounds. I'm sure that pissed some people off, but it's hard to believe that HTDA released anything better than the Flaming Lips this year.

Um, yeah, Hesitation Marks. And the new Franz and P.TM. Only band who could beat them now is Sleigh Bells.

So according to my iTunes I've listened to 38 albums this year at least once all the way through.... Upcoming releases I'm stoked for are Arcade Fire and possible Joanna Newsom??

So...we're 3/4 of the way through the year. What are your lists looking like?
    4/27 - Ghost BC - Fonda (?)
    4/29 - Franz Ferdinand - Wiltern (?)
    4/30 - Mono - Troubadour (?)
    5/03 - Philip Glass - Royce Hall
    5/06 - Rodrigo y Gabriela - Orpheum (?)

Julia Holter's Loud City Song is making a strong case for a top spot.
