Given that it's a one-day fest, and there are only nine hours of music, I think they did a pretty spectacular job with the schedule. None of my top three acts (The National, Matthew Dear, and Deerhunter) conflict, and that's more than I ever could have hoped for.

This was AMAZING last year. Perfect weather, perfect setting, perfect crowd. Definitely looking forward to details of the 2014 event.

Sophomore Slump - Laneway 2014: "Thanks for your continued support and interest in Laneway Festival Detroit. For those who joined us at Laneway Detroit last year, you know it was a great success. However, we’ve decided to postpone it this year due to timing.
It was a difficult decision, but, unfortunately, artists’ scheduling was our biggest obstacle and we didn't want to compromise the quality of the festival we all expect.
We hope to return to Detroit again in 2015."

Well this sucks. Glad they pulled the plug now though instead of putting out a really lackluster lineup.

I actually spoke with someone at Meadowbrook about this, they said the event was too big and they didn't want them back. Obviously that's not the reason they gave, but it couldn't have helped.

huh. i was under the impression that they were planning on expanding, too.

anyway, they should move it to actual detroit.

That's a shame that the venue wasn't willing to work with the organizers, if that's true... Meadowbrook was beautiful and a perfect location/setting for Laneway. If they moved it to actual Detroit like Belle Isle or even worse like what DEMF is like, then I absolutely wouldn't have even gone.

hart plaza would suck. belle isle would be fine as long as it still leaves the island open to non-festival goers.

I really like Hart Plaza as a venue, despite how rough being on concrete is all day, but then again, I don't know that it'd work as well for a non-electronic focused festival. But it's easy to get good sightlines at the main stage area, there's not a lot of soundbleed, it's not a huge deal walking from area to area, it's on the river. I'd check out a non-Movement fest there and see how it works if they had something good.
