I mean, given GV's track record of booking dance artists a few years past their relevance/peak in the scene, those are unsurprising predictions. Also an unsurprising wishlist from ET MB

    8/16: Anthony Naples, Maxmillion Dunbar @ f8
8/18: Man Man @ The Chapel
    8/23-8/24: FYF Fest
8/30: Peaking Lights @ The Chapel
9/3: Bear in Heaven @ The Independent
    9/24 - 28: Decibel Festival
10/5: The War on Drugs, Cass McCombs @ The Fillmore
    10/18-19: Treasure Island Music Festival

Machinedrum seems to be a no brainer this year.

Really though, it doesn't matter what's in the Yuma or whatever replacement stage they might be planning if I have to wait 30 minutes to get in and deal with security people who are rightfully at their wits end trying to manage the doors. They've got more space for the festival this year, I just want the Yuma to be outdoor but shaded and for the DoLab's bass to not be ruining sets at the Gobi.

Nina Kraviz seems like a good bet for next year. Boiler room also seems like something coachella crowd would eat up but not worth the effort. I would like to see interesting label showcases for 3hr blocks in the Yuma. Not not quite there yet but hopefully soon

I was there, it was awesome.

Also, I compiled a lot of everyone's Yuma predictions into a playlist on Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/user/1214110...gLKLEPHyYYksQH

And your idea of a great Yuma tent?

  19. #139

    Default Re: Yuma 2014

a great yuma lineup would include a healthy dose of quality diggers/selectors ... dj's not hamstrung by a record bag featuring the latest in plodding, mind-numbing tech-house. people along the lines of ben ufo, move d, steffi, gerd janson

moreover, it would be nice to see a smattering of harder/rougher stuff ... blawan, samuel kerridge, objekt, any number of l.i.e.s. acts, etc

the yuma can and should be better than a near-facsimile of the "underground" stages at edc and hard events

Fair enough. I hope they expand it in size. Pretty fun seeing Pete Tong in that setting. wasnt about to wait in line for anyone in there, although i am sure some were worth it. On the expansion topic, anyone heard anything further on the ground expansion?

They should at the very least get Silent Servant or some of the Droid guys to play.

Silent Servant would be infinitely possible, too, as he lives in LA and plays shows here all the time.

Right, that's what I'm getting at.

It'd be nice to see a variety of sound textures and different labels represented, rather than whatevers topping the year end RA DJ polls and whoever played at Robot Hearts at BM.

possible but improbable. la has a good many compelling acts that could play the Yuma ... silent servant, delroy edwards, vatican shadow / prurient etc ... and we may very well get none of em. we're more likely to see every tom dick and harry w a release on hot creations

a lee burridge here, a damian lazarus there ... the lion's share of this board will congratulate gv for a job well done in bringing "underground" dance music to the polo fields. ugh.

Dom doesn't even play in LA as Prurient, for what it's worth. Or at least has not in quite a while. He was scheduled to open for Godflesh, then dropped, then was scheduled to open for Godflesh on every date EXCEPT LA, then all those dates were cancelled and rescheduled so who knows.
