Thread: 2014 Headliner Cheat Sheet

  1. #91

Default Re: 2014 Headliner Cheat Sheet

If Foo Fighters get an album out before May of next year I feel they're a sure bet, unfortunately.
I'm also thinking Mumford & Sons will take the Phoenix/Black Keys/Kings of Leon/Muse/Killers slot of hot new blockbuster band. And I can't stand them.

I'm crossing my fingers for some variation of Beck/Outkast/Daft Punk/Nine Inch Nails but that would be way too 90's I suppose. They're gonna have to slip some bullshit like Mumford in there to bring in the KROQ crowd.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes have a new album coming out this year. If it produces a couple "Home" like monster singles I can see them headlining. They are playing the hollywood bowl this summer. Or perhaps they'll just sub.

Even with a guest appearance from Xenu himself, Beck isn't a headliner.

Funny you say because Beck headlined in 1999 along with Rage & Tool.

I think Beck and say The Flaming Lips could co-headline a night like Blur & Stone Roses did this year.

You're comparing a "2 day" festival(huge money loser that year) that sold 25-30,000 tickets vs. a "3 day" festival that needs to sell 180,000. Plus it's 15 years removed.

Blur/SR would only make the trip over if they were "headliners" and their had significantly more rarity. Basic facts many forget - and It's a double booking I still hugely repsect.

    Incubus has a better shot.

    Good point,

You're right, he couldn't headline a night himself. But co-headline with another 90's act of equally popularity? I think thats possible.

With the possible exception of an Oasis reunion, I can't think of anyone who'd qualify as a "co-headliner" with Beck.

Along the same lines as White Stripes, I imagine when James Murphy wants an LCD Soundsystem reunion, it will be a headliner.

Hell, the Doors would reunite and tour before Oasis ever buries the hatchet. Spreaking about Hell Freezing over, aren't the Eagle's touring again. Ringo's getting a band back together, too I hear.
Even though I look it, I'm not a cop.

I know Bmack would be screaming like a little girl but in no world are Sleater-Kinney a headliner.

On the subject of the Doors, however, just the other day I was watching Fallon, and the drummer from the Doors was on (can't remember his name). He made reference to them getting back together to "play some one-offs or a couple shows"*with a guest vocalist(s) ala Pink Floyd at Live 8.

    Just sayin

Haven't they already been sorta together for a while now? At least two of the original members still play together performing only Doors songs. They went by The Door of the 21st Century, then Riders on the Storm and now go by Manzarek-Krieger. Just adding the drummer would pretty much just be like a classic rock version of Sublime with Rome.

Except for 3-4 songs, The Doors fucking sucked when Jim Morrison was alive and drinking.

Definitely the classic rock canon band that I have the least amount of time or tolerance for.

At least give Kanye West a 'Too Soon' spot on your chart. With a New Album coming he will be in the conversation.
