Default Thom Yorke - New Solo Album

    http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=26588

Thom Yorke has announced details of a new solo album called Tomorrow's Modern Boxes.

News of the project landed through a letter co-penned by Yorke and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. The letter says that the LP has been released using a new version of BitTorrent, which fans can now access for a fee of 6 USD.

The letter goes on to explain the reasons behind the experiment, claiming "it could be an effective way of handing some control of internet commerce back to people who are creating the work." Unlike usual torrents, this new system "does not require any server uploading or hosting costs." If you'd rather own a physical copy, a deluxe vinyl version is on sale now at the album's official site.

Does it sound exactly like his last three albums?

Halfway in and it is terrible. Thom Yorke and Radiohead are officially dead everyone. Time to say goodbye to the last great band. There are currently 0 great bands now making music. Worst musical period of the last 100 years easily.

It's a lazy collaboration of noises hes made before. It's clear the creative mind loses its ability with age.Past 40 and its extremely rare to do anything new. Radiohead made us think they could prove this wrong. In Rainbows was a magnificent album. Then they fall off the cliff. King of Limbs was awful. Atoms for Peace is awful. Thom Yorke solo is awful. So long Radiohead in pushing boundaries. Your time has come. Thank you for the greatness you once had. I don't see anybody making anything great right now.

Son House. Mississippi John Hurt. Bob Dylan. Johnny Cash. Sonic Youth. Bob Pollard.

I could probably go all day. Post-40 folks can rock.

Being conservative, with Dylan I'd say Time Out of Mind and Love and Theft, although the ones after those were excellent as well. For Cash, American Records and Unchained are both killers, and I'm quite a fan of his mid 70s work.

I certainly wouldn't call it garbage, but it definitely is more of the same.

This is getting terribly off-topic, but getting to see Guernica in 2012 was perhaps the highlight of my Spain trip. It's such a tremendous, affecting piece. I love that Reina Sofia has an entire room just dedicated to the studies and sketches of the individual pieces as well, something that i was not expecting to see.

Yes, I visited there a few years ago myself. It was awesome in the true sense of that word.

Maybe it's not garbage but when a band creates some of the greatest music in history then decides to make boring electronic music with no soul its just the worst. Thom Yorke is clearly the reason for Radiohead's collapse. His solo work and Atoms for peace work have no emotion.

Just watch videotape live from the basement and then try to listen to this "mother lode" song. Did he finally say all he could say? Now he just wants to finish his career making average electronic music? What a fucking shame for all of us.

Maybe I'm so mad because Ill gladly buy anything Yorke puts out just hoping for a glimpse of that brilliance he once had. If this is how he goes out its much worse than Cobain killing himself. It's worse than elliott smith killing himself. Yorke is killing his talent instead. Hes becoming a robot. A useless emotionless robot. For a man who can impact millions that is truly sad. There is only a few of those out there, which is why people are giving him a pass.

Also thank you Bmack for having conversations. A lot of the bullshit I put out is because of the toxic attacking by the boardies. I'd be more civil if you were the norm. The constant attacking is nonsense so I respond with nonsense.

oh you believe those "Elliott Smith killed himself" coverup lies?

Hey maybe Jonny can make a solo album that includes a cover of "How Do You Sleep?".

Only had time for one museum as we blew through and chose the Prado. Las Meninas is a nice consolation prize.

Sinatra was in his 40's during the Nelson Riddle years

Thinking about it, making great stuff in your 40's is likely more the exception than the rule. Age+domesticity dampens the passions. I have a hypothesis that the sweet spot age for creativity is about 25. I've never tested it, but is seems that most great music acts put their best stuff out around this age.

I just want Radiohead to write a song that truly kicks ass again (i.e. There, There and Optimistic and Paranoid Android). As much as I love In Rainbows, Bodysnatchers was the closest thing to the kick ass, uptempo Radiohead i'm talking about but was still nowhere in the same league as those songs.

Hopefully Thom has been able to exhaust all of his glitchy obsessions in his other projects and he'll return another masterpiece with Radiohead...I guess I'll remain...optimistic...

Seriously though, Ed and Jonny were so underused in King of Limbs. Such a forgettable album.
