Prior (May) version below:
With a new album from Empire of the Sun coming I think it would be appropriate for them to be on there somewhere. They are as popular or more popular than some of the bands on the bottom right of the graph.
Half the acts listed are not headliner worthy.
I don't see the Chili Peppers on that cheat sheet, Wes.
10/8 - Little Dragon @ Marquee (Tempe, AZ)
10/11 - Carolina Chocolate Drops @ Rialto Theater (Tucson, AZ)
11/10 - The Black Keys @ US Airways Center (Phoenix, AZ)
4/10/15 - 4/12/15 - Coachella
What, no chance of Gorillaz coming back?
The ‘Favorites’ bucket includes acts where there’s been a lot of recent discussion. I would agree that a few (but only a few) are not ‘headliner worthy’ in the eyes of most people. Those close to the center are no less headliner worthy that acts of recent years.
I think most would agree that nearly all of the ‘Blockbusters’ and ‘Reunions and other Severe Longshots’ are headliner worthy.
The ‘Poppy Rock’ and ‘Slightly Out of Genere’ categories were intended to be more comprehensive than anything else, showing the most talked about acts and those likely to be accepted as headliners towards the middle. Maybe a couple of those need to drop completely off (Gotye), but for the most part, they all have some level of plausibility. In fact, I should probably move most of the ‘Poppy Rock’ group back away from the center.
The upper-right have all headlined already and although the years since they last headlined all vary, 2014 is too early for them to return.
The bottom-right is clearly labeled that they are too small and it’s too soon to jump up to a headlining spot. This bucket is necessary though because of the (expected or unexpected) jumps we’ve seen in the past.
Thinking though each of these buckets separately, I’d be interested to see what is not here, but worthy of inclusion.
MGMT is definitely the band that will probably headline next that shouldnt really headline because they are shit.
^When was the last time you heard a brand new MGMT song getting any popularity?
Wait, where's Incubus?
If their new album can churn out a series of AltNation chart-movers over the next 6-12 months, you can insert Vampire Weekend into that Black Keys slot on Friday night.
Okay I know there's always something to gripe about with these lists but...
Cut/Copy? In fucking whose world? I'm not even sure that would be a Sahara headliner.
Cut Copy was my favorite set at Coachella 2011.I would be very happy and be at whatever stage they would be closing at if they were at Coachella again.
