    Default KROQ Weenie Roast 2013

    You know it's coming

    Tomorrow morning at 7:15

I actually have high expectations for this year and might go because I predict blink-182 and 30 Seconds to Mars will be the top billed acts. Jimmy Eat World would be another nice booking. Might as well expect Awolnation as well

Blink wont be there, that's why they had to move XFest from May to September. Expect something like Green Day, 30 Seconds to Mars, Passion Pit, Of Monsters and Men, Jimmy Eat World, The Lumineers, Imagine Dragons, Atlas Genius, Capital Cities, and The Neighbourhood.

    Ugh......
    Violent Femmes
    Pavement
    Rage
    The Chemical Brothers
    Blur
    Radiohead
    Deftones
    System of a Down
    The Strokes
    The White Stripes
    Interpol
    Beastie Boys
    Modest Mouse
    Yeah Yeah Yeahs
    Queens of the Stone Age
    Bloc Party

All great acts that have played Weenie Roast in the past.
Why does this year look like it will suck so much...it's like the lineup gets worse every year. There hasn't been a good Weenie Roast lineup since 2004.

Sorry theklein, I know you like this music. I'm just expressing my opinion.

Man, I seriously would be down to see 30 Seconds to Mars after their first album. But things like "The Kill" and that severed ear story have all but ruined it for me.

Good god, there's no way mainstream rock radio has always been that lame and boring.

Yup this lineup is absolutely horrible. 30 Seconds to Mars and Jimmy Eat World are the only main stage bands worth seeing at this point. I would've been more happy with The Wiggles in that Vampire Weekend spot since they are going for that youth sound appeal

That is horribly sad when 30 Seconds to Mars is considered the saving grace. Eww.

it's kind of sad that the black keys have overexposed themselves to this level. i still like them a lot, but i'm really tired of seeing their name everywhere.

    December 31 - Matthew Dear/The Sword/Pallbearer
    January 30 - Behemoth
    February 3 - Zola Jesus
    February 10 - 1349
February 28 - A Place To Bury Strangers
    April 6 - Swans
    April 10-12 - Coachella
    April 17 - Clark/Nosaj Thing
May 8-10 - Austin Psych Fest
    May 15-17 - Psycho California
    June 24-28 - Glastonbury

That is one meh lineup. I mean, I like the Black Keys and all but yeah, they need to take a break. Don't even get me started on the horror that is 30 Seconds to Mars. I don't think my ears have recovered from the last time I heard Jared Leto attempt to scream...err sing. Love Fitz but saw them in March, love Vampire Weekend and of Monsters and Men but saw them at Coachella.

I was listening to them reveal the line up on the radio on my drive in this morning, and was thinking to myself how sad these things have become. I really wish i could have gone to the 1997 one, I mean just look at this shit:

    June 14, 1997
    Main Stage: The Cure
    The Offspring
    The Chemical Brothers
    Oasis
    Foo Fighters
    Blur,
    Social Distortion
    The Wallflowers
    Third Eye Blind
    Radiohead
    Echo & the Bunnymen
    The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
    Reel Big Fish
    Squirrel Nut Zippers

    Side Stage:
    Descendents
    That Dog
    Agnes Gooch
    Save Ferris
    Ozomatli

I saw them a few months after the first album came out. I remember them being fun and don't remember a single song. They all signed the CD for me afterwards though. Incubus was much better.

    Huh? Explain yourself.

And I never thought Vampire Weekend was much of a KROQ band. I don't think I've heard A-Punk on there in years, if ever. That having been said I tremendously enjoyed their Coachella set from around the A5/A6 speakers and can't imagine a better setting to see them, what with the open terrain for dance circles and conga lines that are an impossiblity at most any venue.

The first album is, in my opinion, a pretty great marriage of Tool-inspired modern rock with some progressive/spacey elements, electronics, and drawn out songs. I actually wrote it off as shitty nu metal and didn't give it a chance for a couple years. It didn't take off and I doubt they still play much from it anymore besides maybe Edge of the Earth.

Mid to late 90's was an awesome to time to be in your late teens early twenties in terms of the so cal music scene. Was 19 that year, it was smack dab in the middle of my concert going and music discovering prime.

This was the one and only Weenie Roast I ever went to. Ok Computer had just come out or was going to the next week so no one knew any of those songs yet. The only songs any casual Radiohead fan knew was Creep and High and Dry and I don't think they played either. This was also when Blur VS Oasis was a big deal in the UK - so Blur was scheduled to go on earlier in the day, but pretended like they were late or missing equipment or something and was then able to go one later in the day closer or after Oasis. What a great day. The Cure was incredibly boring though and 1/2 the crowd left during their set.

I dunno if that's just a thing with the Cure. When I went in 2004, The Strokes played last and half the crowd left then too. A drunken Julian Casablanca's told the rest of the crowd that "those people suck" and that everyone who stuck around was cool.

In 2005, the one and only Weenie Roast I attended, the Foo Fighters were essentially the headliners despite Motley Crue (lol) having top billing. I remember sticking around for Motley Crue and seeing the red brake lights in the parking lot multiply. Didn't stick around for the whole set.
