Thread: Thoughts on the Do Lab

  1. #1

Default Thoughts on the Do Lab

I personally love the do lab. Its almost like a festival within the festival, which to me only adds to the coachella experience. That said, I notice that its becoming a nuance to a lot of festival attendees as the sound bleed can really ruin someones experience in the Gobi (the rodriguez set comes to mind). So i ask you boardies, what do you think of the Do Lab? Should they keep it in its current format, relocate it, expand it, or do away with it?

i'm over do lab and think its an anachronistic burning man nuisance. Mad Max meets Psilocybin with water cannnons, might I thought was interesting at first but usually just prevents any hanging back from Gobi or Outdoor without sound bleed. That needs to been gentrified into something like the 'projection house' art with no noise bleed or moved somewhere more useful like the parking lot... that being said if i used party favors it would be pretty trippy n sweet. That being said, Bah Humbug, and Get Off My Lawn, damn kids making a racket with their Due Laboratories and such. Can you edit the thread into a poll?

if they put it in camping, can it go in lot 4? maybe all the water will actually make grass grow there!

but seriously, I like the do lab for what it is even though I don't spend more than 20-30 minutes there at a time, but its current location isn't working anymore. if it was an enclosed space it might work a little better, but with it being so open it's just a sound bleed problem. I liked the suggestion of putting it near the entrance or even over by the ferris wheel.

putting it in camping may sound like a great idea but I wouldn't want to camp near it.

I'm a Do Lab enthusiast and I vote for it to be relocated.

I don't want to hear fat Dubstep in the background while I'm watching bands like Foals.

Relocate it please. I don't go in there, but I usually find it visually pleasing. Not this year. Thought it looked crammed in to close to the tents, and like everyone else mentioned, the sound bleed sucked.

put the damn thing in the campgrounds or get rid of in general. If you want shitty dance music go to the sahara of the dome. Pissed me off Saturday night when I was trying to watch Sigur Ros and all I hear is that god awful bass drowning out the beautiful sounds coming from of my favorite bands.

How about move it near the Yuma area. (probably have to move those food vendors/shade areas/stupid T-rex out to make room though) Make it convenient for Dont Lab <> Yuma travelers, and you don't have to worry about sound bleed in/out of the Yuma.

    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

Even if they relocated it to where the tesla coils are, i think it would help the sound bleed immensely. or maybe they can get rid of recycle rex and put it there?

As much as I hate the Do Lab and the morons that it attracts, I probably don't need to see them get electrocuted.

i was just implying that it needs to shut the fuck up. it would be way cooler if it

    a) stopped playing music
    b) remain there, and lit, somewhat like the wooden ramp structure thing...place to chill, climb, zone out.
    c) served aclohol, but that would involve it being in a beer garden.

After reading about your camping experience this year, I think Lot 4 would be a great spot... Turning Negatives into Positives in a scenicworld!

Yeah, I'd be afraid that would shed too much light on the pretentious and judgmental ASSpects surrounding the Do Lab... If it wasn't a part of the fest, where would all those morons go, Mitch?
Its like the Infinite Monkey Theorem, if you put X amount of monkeys in a room with a typewriter and ask them to give you Shakespeare 99% of them will fling their shit at you while the other 1% will masturbate in the corner.

I spent the least amount of time in the Do Lab ever this year. Mainly due to there being very few acts I was interested in. The 1st weekened I thought they weren't even spraying water until I saw otherwise on Sunday. That has to be it's biggest draw during the heat. I rarely go there at night, though I did catch a little ThugFucker and liked it. Christian Martin was OK. The only other artists I was interested in seeing Worthy and Kastle were at night and not a priority in conflics.

Putting it in the campgrounds could be very cool. A nice cool off on the way into the fest!

It does add an artistic flair to the fields that I appreciat, but overall I liked the design much less this year. 2011 was the best in my opinion, followed by 2010.

I absolutely love the Do Lab for the fact that it is centrally located so that you can pass through between acts and get hosed down in the heat. But the sound bleed, especially at night, can be a bother. I wouldn't mind if they moved it, but not to the campgrounds! Thats such a waste! Also, the idea of turning it off at night is a pretty good idea. I never go there after sun down.
