I get the complaints about the single day passes. Those were a staple of the festival. ACL isn't a destination festival the same way Coachella or Bonnaroo are. There is no camping and the line-up has never been the most diverse historically. It just doesn't have the same draw that would warrant three-day passes only. Especially over two weekends. There is a reason why even the first weekend hasn't sold out yet.

As for the ACL following, it's crazy to me. I live in Texas and the consensus is that it's a down year. Compared to other festivals, I think the headliners secured are among the best of any festival. But there are people here that are disappointed that the Black Keys aren't playing KNOWING they played last year. A lot of people I've talked to are underwhelmed by Depeche Mode and the Cure.

Here's a couple FB posts that REALLY made me laugh:

Michael Lupinetti - What a waste of a perfectly good festival ! WEAKEST headliners EVER,and almost the same lineup both weekends with no single day wristbands !!!! I am beginning to despise freakin Cfreakin3

Jason Ellis - This line up is a joke. Way to blow it ACL. Lets just book Katy Perry, PitBull, and LMFAO as the headliners next year. It's crap.

Jeff Wilson - Lionel Richie, really? What a crap line-up.

Melissa Lux - Weakest festival lineup of the summer! Wtf ACL?! Lionel Ritchie?? Really??

Sonja Funakura - Thought the Black Keys and Flaming Lips were going to make this.

Joe Trebing - Well I like Eric Church

Andrew Cisewski - shittiest ACL lineup ever. A good testament of how shitty the music industry has become. so disappointed

several people on my facebook have expressed disappointment by saying that last year they brough us bassnectar, avicii, and rhcp, and that this year is pretty weak comparatively. perhaps it will sell out as it gets closer to the festival. we're still 5 months out.

Well if I decided to be very irresponsible and attend this festival it's good to know that I wont have to worry about it selling out anytime soon.

some of those posts are hysterical. I think most of the festival community outside of Austin thinks this lineup is among the best of the US festivals, yet the regulars are up in arms about how terrible it is. I guess I can understand the single day ticket thing. Coachella still has its fair share of people bitching about no single day tickets (and how they used to be able to buy a ticket the day of the festival).

I think all of this is the perfect chance for the organizers of FFF Fest to really deliver this year.

I don't think the people bitching about TBK and The Flaming Lips not playing ACL again are going to be into FFF.

Well with Transmission Events always in competition with C3, I think it's their chance to come off looking better.

I disagree. I like the Black Keys and the Flaming Lips better than 90% of what's on the top 3 lines of the ACL poster, and I am definitely into FFF.

I have intentions of going the 2nd week. With the way ticket sales are going, hopefully I dont have to worry about buying anytime soon. If im lucky tickets sell on the cheap like Coachella 2nd week sold this year.

Looks like you might need to decide sooner. From twitter:

Weekend One is SOLD OUT! If you want to go to #aclfest in 2013, better get your Weekend Two Passes soon! http://aclfest.co/12jfNcV

Even if you miss out on getting tickets, the secondary market will be flooded.

Fuck! Since the price of airfare will increase much more than the fest tickets, Im going to worry about paying for the flight first. The cheap part of me is hoping that people have a hard time unloading their week 2 tix.

I would mainly go for The Cure because I have Depeche Mode tickets already, but I know Austin's fun and there are acts I wouldn't mind seeing again like QOTSA. But I'm sure I'll have a chance to see The Cure some other time.

How strict are they about the passes being non-transferable?

I've traveled farther for lesser lineups. To me, this lineup trumps coachella's. Way too many good bands but Cure>QOTSA>DM make it totally worth it.

Are serious??? The headliners, yes are better, but overall there is no way this lineup is better than coachellas not even close. The only thing that has coachella beat is primavera. Saying that I am thinking of booking a plane ticket and figuring out when it gets closer.

Some of these arguments are hilarious love the same lineup ones.

I have no complaints and I think the lineup is awesome the no day passes thing definitely sucks giant cock though

most of the undercards I want to see at acl were acts I missed at coachella. So I see acl as like coachella icing.

looks like i'm gonna skip OSL & do ACL Weekend 2 this year, love Austin & need to head out there this Fall to work on SXSW venues anyways so it's perfect timing. gonna get my flight soon while they're fairly cheap then worry about ticket in September. I don't imagine they'll be going for anymore than face.

Same here. And put me in the "ACL beats Coachella" crowd this year... but a lot of that is powered by the fact that I think RHCP is an absolutely miserable choice for a headliner. I've never seen them live but the webcast of their "headlining" show this year confirmed that I should keep that streak intact.
