that doesnt sound like the way to go at all
The rail in Austin sadly is a joke, there is only 1 line and doesn't stop near zilker.
The shuttle works but the line to leave at night can be an hour. (you could walk it in 1 hour if you are up for the trek)
If you drive to the fest early (11-2) you can find paid parking around the area, every business and area shop sells parking but again its pay. Never had an issue here
Taxis can be hard to get as well, try to get dropped off and picked up...
dropoff/pickup is the best if you can swing it. last year we walked all the way back across the lake for a cab.
i think it would be awesome if they could somehow swing camping some year. i for some reason enjoy the idea of urban camping here.
I'm just trying to avoid the cost of a rental while I'm there. we just secured a flat right across the street from Revolution Square (for $200 a night!) so we can easily walk to the shuttle pick up and be near 6th st for after festival shenanigans. it might be a long walk back to the square, but I suppose if the line is terrible it might be an option as well.
ok, ill bite, i've lived here for decades....what is revolution square?
sorry, Republic square. it's where the shuttle picks up and drops off.
There is no parking at Zilker Park for the ACL Festival, so take the free shuttle instead – a short hop to the park! Board at Republic Square at the corner of 4th & Guadalupe streets and you’ll be dropped off at the Festival entrance on Barton Springs Road. When you’re finished rocking, hop back on for a return trip.
The shuttles begin at Republic Square at 10AM and make their final return from the park at 11PM each day of the Festival.
There is plenty of parking around the festival. Personally, I find that the parking lot at the Randall's Grocery Store on Lake Austin BLVD always has dozens of available parking for a cheap price (or free if you only plan on going into the fest for an hour or two). It's not a far walk either and makes it easy to grab something to drink/eat before or after the fest.

an older woman in nicko's life likely died of emphysema or some similarly difficult disease, and every time he sees someone enjoying a cigarette, or even breathing on a cold day, he just can't take it.
From ACL's website:
WEEKEND 1 ONLY:
Wick-it The Instigator
Peterson Brothers Band
Latasha Lee & The BlackTies
Kristin Diable & The City
WEEKEND 2 ONLY:
The Dynamites feat. Charles Walker
Luella and the Sun

Not In The Face
Tyree Morris & Hearts of Worship
Heavenly Voices Choir
All other bands on the Lineup will play both Weekend 1 & Weekend 2
So all theyre switching up is the bottom of the line up acts.
yeah they said it was pretty much just the local acts that are getting switched up.
yup, mostly local dudes. whiskey shivers plays everywhere. EVERYWHERE. like 6 shows a week.
bike is an awesome idea. more so even for acl even than sxsw.
Nick O is a complete moron; I hope he dies in a fire caused by careless weed smokers.
I mean seriously, the stupidity that comes from that guy, you'd figure he was smoking something.
Bikes have worked brilliantly for me for both Outside Lands and Fun Fun Fun. almost for sure going to do it again, though a friend no moved to Austin that I will be staying with so it depends on how close she is to the fest.
What time does ACL usually go to? One of my favorite parts of Fun Fun Fun was catching acts afterwards at one of the badjillion bars in Austin (Black Moth Super Rainbow @ Mohawk!). Nice for an out of towner that wants to see the city and go to the festival.
All booked. So excited to finally experience ACL!
By the way, if anyone's ready to pull the trigger on flights, Virgin America has a sale on until tonight at midnight for flights to Austin. You enter a contest here Virgin America Contest and get a promo code for 25% flights to/from Austin. Saved a bundle and Virgin was already the cheapest fare by half before the discount.
Looks like the fest is over by 10, which shocked me at first, but then I looked up last year's after shows and holy crap. Good stuff! The Weeknd, Crystal Castles, HEALTH, Gary Clark Jr. and on and on. Hopin' for some good ones this year, too.
The top of the lineup is not very ACL-esque. There's no Robert Earl Keen types on the lineup at all.
but damn I just noticed they have a reunited True Believers buried in the middle of the page. damn. damn damn damn. that's almost worth going for, that alone. damn.
