Actually, C3 messed up. They decided to schedule weekend 2 the same weeked as Oklahoma vs Texas, whoops.
They had big screens across the place showing the game during the afternoon.
2013 is the year of the festival
Outside of Coachella 2014 will be a letdown compared to this year
I want to see how they spread out the 60 "cool bands" over the 3 days then schedule em. Youll see 5 acts a day the way they do shit, its totally worth it.
Bob Dylan & his band, Bjork, The White Stripes, The Killers, Wilco, Arcade Fire, Muse, My Morning Jacket, Queens of the Stone Age, Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Damien Rice, Spoon, The Decemberists, Regina Spektor, Amy Winehouse, Crowded House, Kaiser Chiefs, LCD Soundsystem, Devotchka, M.I.A., Ben Kweller, Andrew Bird, Ghostland Observatory, Peter Bjorn and John, Yo La Tengo, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Blonde Redhead, The National, Midlake, Dax Riggs, Sound Team, The Little Ones, and many, many more.
However, in the cause of a balanced opinion: I have seen Wilco probably 10 times over the years, and the 07 set at ACL is probably my favorite. god damn they killed it that night. As did LCD Soundsystem, who played a late afternoon set in broad daylight -- it was fucking amazing.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.
Wildfires are a legitimate reason to ban it. Big fires happened near LA recently and it was from someone throwing a cigarette butt out his car window.
But that's been happening for years, and nobody's banned smoking in cars.
I'm not familiar with this festival. Is it particularly overgrown? Is there vegetation that can easily catch fire? The most "overgrown" festival I know of (in terms of ground cover) is bonnaroo, and I can't see that kind of grass starting a wildfire, even if it was dry.
It is in a park. The park sits on the side of a river and has grass and trees and stuff. It is comparable to Bonnaroo, except Texas is in the middle of a drought.
But banning smoking is overkill. It is another victory for the puritans who will latch onto any excuse to make a vice illegal.
In Austin smoking is banned in all city parks. Zilker park is a city park. ACL happens in zilker park.
With that being said i smoke bud in zilker park, surrounding parks and areas every weekend.
I have gone to ACL 6 years now and no one has ever said anything to me or people im with about smoking, we do not smoke cigarettes though.
the chairs do suck but they can not go past a certain point close to the stage. At the end of the night i just go godzilla out of the pit area through chairs.
check out that picture, great example of smoking in an austin park on 4/20. you can see the cloud 2 blocks away.
how's public transit getting to Zilker park? is the light rail a viable option?
edit: looks like the free shuttle is the way to go.
