Default Yeah Yeah Yeahs -- Please Bury Mosquito

Hi guys. Nick. Karen. Other guy.

Here's the thing: the new album is... not good. I love you guys. I've loved you for many years. I've defended you through so-so performances, I've backed up how epic and glorious you can sound against all assault.

But there's a problem. You're doing something with this new album which is a terrible idea. Your set on Friday sounded pretty good until you changed something with the mix and Karen's mic around the third song when you went into the Mosquito material that wasn't Sacrilege and it knocked Karen's vocal out and the whole thing just sounded fucked up.

The new album is not that good. But you could still maintain yourselves as a great act to see live if you just bail on this whole idea.

Forget the new album. Nobody buys albums anyway. If you fuck this up, you're going to jeopardize your ability to stay employed as professional musicians which is determined solely by whether or not you are going to stay a good live draw that can fill a venue.

Abandon this new crap. Go back to playing mostly Fever To Tell and Show Your Bones material, throw in two songs from the first EP, throw in a smattering from It's Blitz and start playing Sealings again.

Don't fuck this up please. You are a great band. But you're not acting like one.

Maybe it was because I have never seen them live but I loved their set.

one of my favorite sets of Weekend One. Could've co-headlined with Blur.

It was a fraction of how good they can sound. And they apparently did the same exact shitty effect to the show they played last night. This cannot go on for an entire tour.

Sigh, drummers get 0 recognition even when they are the most musically skilled member of the group. Don't worry, Brian Chase, I know who you are!

I thought their set was fine overall, although I feel like the set was just not as energetic or good as their performance in 09. I actually like the new album more than It's Blitz but the songs definitely need some work live. They'll probably sound way better after they've toured with them for a while.

    Probably my favorite Friday set.

My favorite from Friday as well. Though yes, the new album is a major disappointment.

I thought their set was one of the best of the weekend. And I feel like them playing that shitty Subway song actually made the end of the show even more powerful, thus served a purpose.

I agree with Randy, the new album fucking sucks. I think I'll skip their set weekend 2.

Mosquito has been on repeat for me. I love this shit. Is it as amazing as It's Blitz which is one of my favorite albums of all time? No. But Sacrilege, Under the Earth, Subway, Despair, and Wedding Song are fantastic. I'm happy.

You can't tell us an album that's been out for 2 days is horrible and think we're gonna take you seriously. Especially from a reputable band like YYY's

And they killed it in Vegas last Saturday. They played Mosquito, Sacrilege, and maybe one more song from the new album and they all sounded great.

This is the mark of a studio band -- a band created and defined by their engineer rather than by their own musicianship. I expect it of Justin Bieber and that ilk; I expect more from Coachella bands.

That said, I haven't seen YYYs live. They may be great and OP may be wrong.

YYY's fucking rocked on Friday Night. Easily the best act of the day, if not, the weekend.

Because practice only makes perfect if you're a studio band, right?

    Thumbs down.

I don't even like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and I thought that was a great set. What I saw of it anyway.

4th time seeing them live and I LOVED IT!!! Karen was a bit more reserved the last time I saw them, so it was nice to see her bring the sexual stage presence back.
Coachella 07 (the introduction), 08 (the bands), 09 (the documentary), 10 (the people i came with), 11 (the relationship test... we passed), 12 (whatever the weather, Dirty Epic forever), 13 (the year of the troll)

    Awesome set.

And yes I'm sure they're going broke doing it if they keep it up. LOL

Sure, we *maybe* would have preferred a set of all YYY bangers - but the new songs were interesting, and Subway was fairly cool at night - they gotta try something new, so what if the new album isn't as amazing as the last few, it has its moments.

YYYs were probably my fave set of the weekend...

And Nick was at the front of stage watching Grinderman afterwards, so that was pretty cool.

Subway was cool but it's barely a song. I did like it though. Even Sacrilege was pretty good until you couldn't hear anything clearly through the weird effects.
