Default Something has to change with the Yuma tent

I was really excited to see a few acts that were placed in the Yuma tent, including Four Tet and The 2 Bears. I was super bummed when I showed up to Four Tet early with a 100 person line going out the door. Honestly, I would have rather seen him on a proper stage so that everyone would have been able to see him. I didn't even bother trying for The 2 Bears, and I heard that it was the same situation.

The idea of the Yuma tent is neat, but when some of the acts that I was really excited to see were limited to a night club setting, I was let down.

    Thoughts?

I think it's important to remember that this is the first year trying to do something like this, and that there were bound to be issues which the organizers simply could not plan for. Yes, it sucked to have to wait for a set you wanted to see, but that was the only negative which I can think of and I have every confidence that they'll be able to fix the entrance/exit issues for next year (if not in time for Weekend 2).

Other negatives include no water or bathrooms inside. However, i do understand this can help keep people flushing out. Make that tent 21+ and sell me some cocktails in there with a place to empty my bladder and it would be great.

I think they had no idea how popular it would be and could easily double/triple the occupancy and it would be pretty good.

I didn’t like the idea of having to wait in line to see an act. When someone buys a pass for Coachella shouldn’t they have the chance to see any act they want without waiting in line? I had to miss all of Four Tet and The 2 Bears because of this. This was my 6th year at Coachella and I have never been in a situation where I couldn’t see someone. Am I wrong for thinking I should be able see anyone I want at anytime?

That being said, I understand that there were issues because of it being new. I just hope it gets fixed for the future.

What they will probably end up in the future doing is simply making a note on the site/map/etc that that particular stage is subject to capacity. There are many, many festivals in which there are capacity issues with venues and you are not guaranteed to see every act. Coachella people have been spoiled.

Making it 21+ would be even more disastrous, and they'd probably never make it VIP only. I was actually shocked at how packed and popular the tent actually was because I was delusional enough to think that people wouldn't waste their time getting so hyped up to see essentially a bunch of DJs that roll through the states with moderate frequency. I imagine they will make it bigger next year.

Oh and I'm sure they don't want bathrooms in the actual tent itself because that would only encourage more club type sniffing shenanigans.

This is true, I missed a lot of acts this weekend that I was really excited to see due to the fact that I had no interest in waiting in a long ass line. However, because I had to shift my plans I think I had a better weekend overall, I ended up seeing a lot of bands that I probably would have missed had I been stuck in the Yuma all weekend. I had really been looking forward to Four Tet/Harvey/Troxler on Friday, but still had possibly the best 2 hours of my weekend friday night in the Heineken dome at Kenny Dope Gonzalez who threw it down with more funk and badassery then anyone I saw all weekend. We finally had a chance to check out the Yuma for some of Hawtin/Loco Dice on Sunday night which was tight but we had to leave as soon as we all had to use the restroom.

Air conditioning was probably a big factor in people's choices.

Thankfully I was able to get in for Zane Lowe and stayed for The 2 Bears. I was planning on going for Jamie xx on Sunday, but then my friend told me there was a really long line.

Did the VIP bracelets allow you to skip the long line? Every time I looked the line was very long and not moving.

I like that they didn't have bathrooms in there, in order to keep the flow moving. I did see at least 3 or 4 dudes pissing on the floor behind speakers though. Next time, use a fucking water bottle, brah...

Also, did not like to see huge dudes with flashlights kicking 'regular' people off the couches so the pretty VIPs could mill around and talk about how pretty they all are.
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.

I really wanted to see 2 Bears, but I'm from Alaska, and the idea of standing in a 200 person line under blistering sunlight scares the hell out of me. Oh well, I just hope they dont book any good artists in the Yuma next year.

No, he's saying he missed good artists because of the long lines he didn't want to stand in (because he is from Alaska and Sun in a bad man), so he hopes they don't book people he wants to see in there next year so he doesn't have to miss them.

I Loooooooooooooved the YUMA tent. There was a line, but it moved pretty quick. The lighting was awesome and the music was much better than the Sahara. Actually the Yuma tent played music that the Sahara used to play until KIIS FM took it over.

and watching a mainstage act in midafternoon doesn't scare you, too?

I was very sad to miss a couple of my must see acts because of the ridiculous line for the tent. However, when I was able to get in I had a great time. It was a really great addition.

Same. Wish I would have gone up and asked. But I had other things to get to and someone told me it was "just like a LA-esque club inside" so I wasnt THAT interested.

I think the tent was great but needs some improvements next year to cut down the line.
