Default Phoenix and the Daft Punk rumor

The douche-y attitudes of the people who believed that Daft Punk was going to play during the Phoenix show astounded me today. The group of people behind me chanted DAFT PUNK DAFT PUNK throughout the whole show, as if that was the only reason Phoenix was there to begin with. And as i'm walking out I hear multiple people moaning "I can't believe I wasted my time watching that", Sahara-tards stay on your side of the festival. The best part was the 5 minutes that people chanted "Daft Punk!" even after the show was over, as if they could convince them to suddenly appear at the festival. Not to say I wouldn't enjoy seeing Daft Punk, but only go to Phoenix if you want to see Phoenix.

they may be friends, but if i were phoenix, i'd be pissed. i could say they did it to themselves, but i dont think they thought the MSG show would turn into this, especially coupled with the media blitzkrieg for RAM.

OK, is it just me or is Daft Punk WAAAY overrated. I mean they're enjoyable... but of ALL the people everyone could be wishing to randomly show up and asking for every year. Why daft punk? You could be asking for roger waters or paul mccartney or metallica or a led zeppelin reunion or who knows what else. But no, you want another dj to dance to...

You do realize that was a once in a lifetime thing though. With all the hype that's been building since that show it is impossible for Daft Punk to ever succeed it. Because in 2006 there was nothing to compare it to, thus it was the greatest show ever. When they eventually come back the first thing that'll be said is "wasn't as good as 2006". As possibly great as the new tour may be its inevitable that Daft Punk won't have the same magic that they had back in 2006. How do I know this? Look at the response for "get lucky" so far. Mostly positive, but plenty of "I was expecting more from them". Same thing happened with the Human after all release. It's never going to be good enough.

Are they overrated? On these specific boards of hype beyond belief I'd have to say yea a little bit. Does that mean they're not good, no of course not. And hell yes I'll be first in line to see them whenever they do come back but I wouldn't expect the same magic as 2006. That's completely unrealistic.

There is absolutely nothing stopping people from thinking that R. Kelly trolling Weekend 1 just means that Daft Punk is only closing out Weekend 2. In fact, it has probably already begun. You will still see people chanting Daft Punk after Phoenix Weekend 2, I guarantee it.

I'm in no way a Daft Punk superfan, but they do put on an incredible performance. They don't just DJ, and the spectacle of it is excellent. People ask for it because last time they performed it was truly spectacular.

I hope Phoenix started the rumor to boost crowd attendance. This keeps bringing to mind the grand "no 'My Girls'" pseudo-trolling by Animal Collective during 2011. Expertly played.

Honestly? R. Kelly was a better guest than Daft Punk would have been. DP is great, and they're great live, but they wouldn't have had any light show, any spectacle. R. Kelly's voice is the spectacle, and it was so weird and cool and entirely unexpected. One of my favorite guest appearances.

Agreed, and had Daft Punk showed up, people would bitch when it's over that it wasn't longer, or since they were here why didn't they just do a full set in one of the tents. It's a no win for them.

Sounds like Phoenix was put into a no-win situation. It was expected they would bring out Daft Punk, and people were upset when they didn't, but if Daft Punk did show up, the set wouldn't really be about Pheonix anymore. Kinda shitty for them, but they handled it well.

I enjoyed the R. Kelly appearance. Trololol.

The second I saw R. Kelly on the stage, I knew Daft Punk wasn't going to show up. I should've stayed at New Order and Sigur Ros for a lot longer. I personally don't care for Phoenix (nothing against them).

Amazing that the lack of Daft Punk on the lineup didn't clue you in.

Daft Punk playing at Coachella probably crossed my mind once or twice because of Phoenix when the lineup was announced. I didn't expect them to play.

The only reason I became skeptical about Daft Punk playing during the Phoenix show is because they were playing Daft Punk teaser trailers at random tents on Friday. I wasn't expecting Daft Punk to play a full set, but a song or two during the Phoenix show wasn't out of the question. They've done it once before during a phoenix show, their new album is coming out next month, and a Daft Punk tour hasn't been announced.

Not being in the line up, doesn't mean that no surprise guests show up doing someones performance. It happens all the time.

I always thought it ended early on Sunday, so they can give people camping the boot early Monday morning.
