    Default Devendra Banhart's Cripple Crow

Im convinced that this album is an instant classic. Truly one of the best 500 albums of all time. I can't get enough of it.

Anyway, I was just wondering what the "board established" music appreciation "specialists" that frequent this message board thought about it.

People like TomAZ and others that review artists and albums.

(not that others are not welcome to chime in, its just that I may not necessarily consider their opinions...just sayin')

I've not heard it. Not one single song. Therefore, it sucks.

I think it's pretty good but I don't listen to it nearly as much as I listen to Nino Rojo or Oh Me Oh My

Hey Mama Wolf and I Feel Just Like A Child are bangers, though

How about Devendra as an artist? I think this guy is amazing, and I wish I would have attended last years Coachella to see him alone.

    TomAZ,

I thought you would have picked this one up by now. Wonderful melodies.

On the intermittently terrific Cripple Crow, Banhart's eccentricities -- notably his impressionistic lyrics and a quavery croon that suggests Robert Plant as well as esteemed dead guys like Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley -- enliven meandering tunes that alternately kiss you on the cheek and just kind of curl up at your feet.
if that's anywhere close to accurate I don't think I'll be hearing it anytime soon either.

Kind of charming, with two songs so cute they should be sung by Cyndi Lauper and Paul Westerberg, respectively
    well that's better.

Cripple Crow is a really good album. I've not heard it in a while, but it's one that sticks with you.

Nope, Devendra is far from Jeff Buckley. His vocals are very warbly, and he's much more bizarre. His voice reminds me of Caetano Veloso, if that helps at all.

Rejoicing in the Hand is probably his best album, but Cripple Crow was a cool change of direction.

i know it sounds cliche, but this album really improves with several listens. I think you will appreciate it TomAz.

I can't stand Banhart. He's got the same disease as Antony, namely Overaffected Warble Syndrome. Plus he's a filthy hippy. His only redeeming quality is having pushed Joanna Newsom onto the world.
