It sucks if you want to be cheap AND drunk though. Who wants to drive after that party?

    Thanks for those capacities HCB.

What's 475 for the weekend now?

Just picked up a great pad on airbnb. Me and Fikus from this here board just booked a place on Maxwell St. which is apparently a 10 minute walk to some of the venues. It's a nice 500sq ft. studio. Airfare is lined up and weekend passes will be purchased tomorrow!

Only I'm pretty sure Mountain Oasis doesn't sell as many passes as Bonnaroo and I actually believe it could go fast with NIN, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights and NMH on the lineup.

right. only it's a marketing campaign and while it may sell very well, a facebook post doesn't mean anything.

I am now pretty split on going to this or Hopscotch. Hopefully this doesn't sell out "Coachella fast" and there is time for more artists to drop.

    Looks awesome so far though.

the saturday of the fest with primus and hawtin was way undersold last year. or maybe it was friday. whatever day 1 was.
Woah... the arena only holds 5K!? That must be some tiny ass arena. I was assuming it would hold between 10-20,000.

How many tickets are usually sold for this?

Asheville is a pretty small city and has a population of less than 85,000.

I researched the capacities of each venue.

    ExploreAsheville.com Arena - 7,200
    Thomas Wolfe Auditorium - 2,431
    The Orange Peel - 1,100
Diana Wortham Theatre - 500 seats
Asheville Music Hall - 360 to 400 depending on the source

Fun fact: Walking from the Orange Peel to the US Cellular Center is .6 miles.....which is the same distance as the Main Stage to the Sahara!

Google says the average walking speed means a 20 minute mile, so .6 would be 12 minutes. I tend to avoid the Sahara like the plague, but at a true walking speed that sounds about right from the times I have been to the Sahara.

    That place is scary nasty.

Also it is always home base for the wooky trash contingent that will be all over this fest for Bassnectar and PL.

    You've been warned.

So, someone who has been to the festival, will I actually be able to see NIN, NMH, HTDA, Zola Jesus, Gary Numan, Animal Collective, Tricky and Godspeed....or am I going to miss half of those standing in a line you think?

I remember reading that in the Coachella booklet that came with festival wristbands.

You will not miss them standing in line.

You may miss them due to conflicts like any other festival though.

I've been the last three years, and the years when they didn't have an outdoor stage and increased the number of tickets sold, lines were almost a non issue. Only venues that can be problematic usually are the Orange Peel and the Asheville Music Hall, and that's only for a few select acts. (BMSR and Disclosure last year, if I can remember correctly)

Main venue (arena) never hits capacity, Auditorium very very rarely, and they more or less reopen it before a real line can start.

It takes 12 minutes if you are walking slowly against a crowd moving towards you. I have definitely made it from the main to the Sahara in under 10 minutes.

I stayed there last year and it was fine. Rooms were clean, free breakfast and it's really close to all of the venues.

As lame as Ticketmaster is in most respects, that was a much easier process than the past few Coachellas at least.

not trying to sell 150,000 passes at once helps exponentially.

Fucking "Verified by Visa" page fucked me royally. I got tier 1 and then it wouldn't accept my answers, even though I knew they were all correct. This kind of shit pisses me off. I called my bank and figured it out, but tier 1 was looooooooong gone by then. Ugh.

Anyways, good news is I got tier 2 and I am in!

I am pretty excited about this fest now!
