Finally getting some time to sit down and regroup after my vacation. Man. What a trip. I cannot get over how cool of a city Asheville is. The people, the food, the beer, the street musicians... everything was just so awesome. I imagined it being some quiet little mountain town and I honestly wasn't sure what I would be doing till 7pm each day. As it turned out, we didn't even get to do or see everything we wanted to. It seemed every corner you turned there was either a cool thing to see or a place we wanted to eat/ drink at. It was also fantastic spending so much time with old friends (Paul, Jenny, Mark, and Erik), and meeting new ones (Alex, Nik, Brendan). This festival turned out to be even more fun and a much more enjoyable experience than I could have ever imagined, and I had high expectations. I don't think MoogFest or Mountain Oasis will be in the card for me next year... but I would love to return to the city one day. For all those debating on Mountain Oasis next year... just go. It was incredibly well organized, each venue brought its unique charm to the performances, and Asheville is just an overall awesome city.

I had a big time there. Asheville is the perfect place for a festival this size. The people are cool, there's tons of stuff going on alongside the festival tract and the nature is righteous in October in the mountains. Some friends and I wrote a review of it if you're interested. http://www.blanknews.com/festivals/6...in-oasis-recap

I went a little bonkers at this festival but had a great time like when I went to Moogfest.

I got in late Wednesday and passed out.

Thursday I went to the Paste party at the Aloft to see People Get Ready then I saw the Bowie cover band at the Mill then I went to the Thirsty Monk and got some drinks (they gave me some free glasses because the last people abandoned them) then I went to the Southern and ate and then I saw a late night DJ named Govinda at the Asheville Music Hall. Needless to say I woke up super late Friday with a huge headache and couldn't make it to the meet up at the Asheville Brewing Company.

Once I was alive Friday I went to pick up my micro brew package. I then went to the Moog Factory for a tour and saw Purity Ring hanging out there, I then went on the tour of the Highland Brewing company. Both cool places! Once that was done it was time for the music.

Saturday I finally made it to the Asheville Brewing Company and High wire brewing (both great places)! And then I went to the VIP party at the Mill room which included free drinks and food (mostly appetizers but still good). Amerigo Gazaway played.

Then it was time for more music and afterwards I went to the late night show at the Mill Room with Molly K from Paper Tiger DJ ing. I came back to my hotel to find an ambulance there, someone had passed out from dehydration / alcohol poisoning, luckily they were fine.

Sunday I went to the Brewer's brunch at the LAB (Lexington Avenue Brewery) which was awesome. We got to taste beer, have great food and hear the local brewers talk.

And then it was time for more music!

All in all, it was a great weekend.

I finally got to try that pizza chain Mellow Mushroom (my friend who lives in Atlanta raves about) and many other great places in town.

The most surprisingly good performance of the weekend was the Chromatics. I wasn't really expecting much.

And Alan Howarth was one of the most fun performances I have seen in a while.

My favorite comment was the security guard's comment, "This music would be great if there wasn't so much bass."

One of the guards also told me that Bassnectar's performance caused a light to unscrew from the vibration and it landed on a guy's head.

The VIP was cool, the viewing areas were handy and the best part was the short cut you could take from the Arena to the Thomas Wolfe. That saved a lot of time. And the VIP lounge was relaxing and it was nice the beer was cheaper.

The Orange Peel and Asheville Music Hall needed better instructions on how to handle the VIP.

I actually discovered some new places from the last time I was there I had never visited Wall Street (nice little shopping and dining avenue) or the Grove Arcade (cool little indoor mall).

I hope to be back next year. Will probably hold off on buying tickets until I see a lineup though.
