highly disagree about the strokes new album. it's pretty mediocre too. although their last one grew on me quite a bit, maybe this one will too after a while.
Let's go on a livin' spree!

I find the last few Interpol and Strokes albums incredibly boring. I liked It's Blitz, was okay with Show Your Bones, and really liked Fever to Tell and their EPs. Is Is may be my favorite overall.

If the new Strokes album is their best in several, that must be a really low bar. It's above average... But these are all opinions, and everyone's got one.

If it wasn't for the Strokes then guitar music would have died. Nickelback, Limp Bizkit etc would have made sure of that. A bit of respect is needed I think.

I don't think anyone is disrespecting them. They even said they had better albums to begin with.

The Strokes saved rock and roll? Jesus Christ, man, you can't be serious.

    Is this it - 10/10
    Room on fire - 9/10
    FIOE - 9/10
    Angles - 7/10
    Comedown Machine - 9.5/10

Anything less than this is disrespect.

Not sure of the term rock'n'roll but they certainly stopped guitar music from dying on its feet at the turn of the century. That is not really up for debate.

If Nickelback, Limp Bizkit and The Strokes were the only three bands on Earth you might have a point.

Who are you to determine what is up for debate and what isn't? Heaven forbid someone doesn't love a band you do. END OF THE WORLD.

Yeah... nothing says poor critical review like claiming Comedown Machine is a 9.5. I don't even rate albums I really like that high. No disrespect to The Strokes, but they didn't save guitar music. That's an incredibly narrow statement.

I'd argue The White Stripes, particularly Jack White, did more for guitar. I know so many kids who decided to take up guitar because of Jack White. But that doesn't mean he saved the damned guitar.

There wasn't really anything happening before is this it. The QOTSA were good but they were not having a major crossover impact like the Strokes eventually would. Doves released a solid debut but were not exciting enough and never looked the part. ATDI had it for a brief time and blew it. Oasis had turned shit and were in the process of making the dreadful heathen chemistry.

Jack White is undeniably a good guitarist but I always found the White Stripes a bit dull.

    The White Stripes: Dull.

    The new Strokes album: 9.5.

You make some really solid points. I had no idea that the most popular instrument in the history of rock and roll, the electric guitar, was on the brink of extinction until The Strokes picked up a pair and started shitting out classic albums.

It sounds like your logic for this statement is that the Strokes made a good album around the same time a few other bands were making bad albums. And then there were these other bands that were good but not as good as the Strokes. And they all played guitars. Is that a fairly accurate summation of this undebatable truth you've shared with us?

The odd White Stripes song is ok but not enough bass for my liking. Meg just continually bashing her drum gets repetitive and boring after a while. The Strokes on the other hand are reinventing themselves on every album.

C'mon, the White Stripes went from minimal blues/rock songs to covering Burt Bacharach and having noisy marimba tracks to using rudimentary synths and playing bass and piano tracks. They varied MUCH more than the Strokes ever have.

Look, I am sure the electric guitar would still be here in some form if it wasn't for the Strokes. No need to be an ass and take what I say literally. But every once in a while a band comes along who turns the rock'n'roll(I will use it) world upside down. Just like Nirvana got rid of hair metal, The Strokes got rid of Nu Metal.

I stopped giving the White Stripes the time of day after elephant. 1 album of that kind you can forgive but their 1st 4 albums are completely overrated and not varied at all. I actually think the Raconteurs are better than anything the White Stripes did and that is mostly down to Benson.

I must. There are people here who are getting excited over Ben Howard. Americans just don't get rock music anymore which I find rather sad.
