Thread: Staking Down Canopy

    Default Staking Down Canopy

    Hi folks:

Coachella newbie here. I'm solo car camping, and looking at getting the 10' Sierra II Canopy.

Any recommendations for inexpensive ways of staking this guy down? I'm looking into sandbags and plastic stakes, so figured I'd see if anyone had specific products they'd recommend.

    Thanks a ton!

I feel like short lengths of rope, with loops at each end, strung through the canopy leg and staked down on each side (so two stakes per leg) seems like a good idea.

we bought small cinder blocks at home depot (79 cents each) and plan to duct tape a cinder block to each leg of the canopy.

Just bought a dozen plastic tent stakes at K-Marts ($6.38) in case my metal ones are confiscated during the car search. You don't want to be raped by the shysters selling them inside the campgrounds at $10+ per half dozen.

you cant use metal stakes first of all. bricks are a good idea. im using 5 gallon buckets that I am filling with water when I get there tied to four sides of my 10x20 canopy that I am bringing. empty they are light, and I can use them a containers for stuff for the campsite, full, they arnt going anywhere =]
this is my very first coachella =] super excited!
    * I got the buckets for free from work... I dont know where you would get them unless you have like a labor restraunt job or maybe cats, sometimes they have huge jugs for litter that can be used

But that'd be like 40lbs of water to carry per bucket. Depending on where you end up camping, that could be one long walk.

You could do what everyone else does and just sneak in the metal stakes

I like the looped rope idea. You can also tie rope to the top of the canopy and stake it to the ground.

yeah, because security never thoroughly searches any car. And they never confiscate metal stakes, leaving a poor sap no alternative but to get price gouged inside the campground. This never ever happens.

i hate people who say this type of crap, but seriously, if you cant hide some metal tent stakes SOMEWHERE in your vehicle, you deserve it. no one is going to be removing seats from cars, putting hands in tailpipes and under carriages, etc.

i used to guard gates occasionally in the military. when on higer alert levels, we fucking SEARCHED. and there are still about 20 places you could put shit that several guards with inspection mirrors couldnt find.

Just get plastic ones! A dozen at K-Mart is less than $7. Fuck, it's not that hard.

funny how we risk getting our metal stakes confiscated, yet it would be acceptable to bring in cinder blocks...

    the whole thing is laughable.

B/c the 'no metal stakes' rule is a total scam and just another opportunity to price gouge us lowly festival goers.

This. I got plastic stakes but they're too big for the canopy.
