The N9NE steakhouse is good, but don't go on a Friday or Saturday night if you want to eat peacefully. It's very noisy on those nights.

    Other good steakhouses in Vegas:

BOA Steakhouse in the Caesar's Forum Shops: Don't bother with this one, it's closed. It had a lousy location -- all the way in the top-floor, farthest corner of the Forum Shops. I have to admit that this place is close to my heart because it was the location of the first date I had with the woman who is now the mother of my 2-year-old son. But the food was good here, too.

Vic and Anthony's in the Golden Nugget: A good steakhouse downtown?! Believe it or not, yes.

Delmonico Steakhouse in the Venetian: Owned by Emeril Lagasse. BAM!

CUT in Palazzo: Owned by Wolfgang Puck.

There is a new Gordon Ramsay steakhouse in the Paris hotel. I haven't been there yet, but you might want to try it if you are a fan of Ramsay's TV shows.

Ahhh, ok that makes more sense. I could see myself getting sucked into cash for a long period of time if I were doing well. I think the longest I have ever gambled was a 14+ hour day, but that was an early poker tournament and then many hours of blackjack after. But we broke for dinner in between.

Archie, I got a groupon offer from Hard Rock in Vegas for $55/night anytime from now through August. I am thinking about booking it for travel in mid June/early July, but I know that prices go down in the summer for Vegas. How is the Hard Rock? I haven't stayed there, pretty nice? What are the chances of finding a better deal at a nicer place if I wait?

I stayed at the Hard Rock 2 summers ago. In the HRH tower (the nicer, more expensive of the 2 towers). Really nice. Really swank. If there isnt much price difference, splurge for the more expensive tower. I'm trying to dig for the couple of pics I took for the room. If I find them ill add them to this post. I will say that I haven't been to Vegas much, so I know a lot of new places on the strip are really nice. This place is off-strip and its probably a little too far to walk to it in the summer. But I did like the place a lot.

oooh, it's not on the strip? It's a pretty good deal, it comes with $50 off of food each day, so basically it's a free room. I am just not sure I like the idea of being that far off the strip.

Hard Rock is a great place to stay even if not on the strip. It's a very quick and cheap taxi ride up Harman to Cosmo, etc... I stayed there three times last year. I recommend the casino tower with pool view. I love the full double doors you can open up to the pool to let the fresh air and music in. Also, gambling is cheaper than most strip casinos there.

And everything is so close within the Hard Rock compared to strip casinos. No big walks between your room, the pool, the casino, etc...

    Book it!

The strip has lost some of its appeal for me. I'll always go, but I don't feel the need to stay or play there. Everything is so much more expensive, and I myself don't see the justification for it. We're currently looking at a trip for a comped room at The Rio.

Never been to the Hard Rock, but I hear good things about it.

I love walking through the newer casinos, but I typically only gamble at the older ones. I also really want to do the swim up black jack but they only have that at Ceasers now, I need to find out if I can still swim/play there if I am not staying there. It's going to suck if I have to stay there, that place is a bit out of my price range.

I haven't stayed at the Rio, but I did eat at the buffet there for my birthday... We both got sick after, avoid it.

At Ceasers you can actually chill in the water and play, but that's pretty cool too. Ceasers you can book a pool package for $147/night (eek), or I can pay $20/person to go chill in their pool and play if I choose. So I think I am going to stick with The Hard Rock, the rooms look pretty nice, and with the groupon deal I get a daybed by the pool.

If you look closely, there are three blackjack tables in the water in that pic. (below and to the right of the normal sit-down ones)

Ahh, I didn't notice that, very cool. I had read something on google that said Ceasers was the only place that did swim up blackjack now. Apparently everything you read on the internet isn't true, stupid commercials lied to me.

We would be dangerous together in Vegas. Not that I would consider that a bad thing.

Maybe we can somehow parlay next year's Coachella into a pre or post trip to Vegas.

I might skip Coachella next year. I think I am going to try to get myself to Hawaii or somewhere I have never been before for my birthday instead. I would be willing to meet you in Vegas before or after though if I can squeeze it into the budget.

    BUMP

World Series of Poker starts next week, and my first event ($1500 NL Holdem, event #6) is on June 1.

Lots of people will be coming to Vegas this summer, so feel free to ask anything I haven't answered yet.

    Both.

There is more luck in the short term and more skill in the long term.

    Yes Archie, good luck.

I hope this year they use the card cam. I learned how to play holdem by watching WSOP. It's a lot easier to learn how to bet by that when you can actually see what they are holding.

They don't televise many events anymore.

    Just the really big ones.

If I make the TV table in the $10,000 Main Event, I'll let you know.

Are poker tournaments really worth playing?

Ive had success with home game tourneys(up to 20ppl) but not so much in Vegas tourneys. Im considering doing a "deepstacks" tournament at the Rio because it looks like it would be more up my alley and not as expensive($235-135) as the Venetian "deepstacks".
Im a fairly tight player but like to mix it up and can change gears, if needed, to make money at the table. I've done pretty well playing cash games at multiple locations on the strip and downtown over the last couple years.

Back to my question....Is the reward big enough for me to try a deepstacks tourney, or should i just invest it in a cash game?

Archie, how are you doing in the world series of poker? Pretty good I am assuming since you haven't posted lately. Or badly and you jumped off the stratosphere. Hope it's the first answer.

Also, what do you suggest someone does when they run into bad card luck. You know, those stretches when you can't catch anything, or if you do catch something someone else has a better hand. Do you play through it and hope you get better cards while losing money, or do you take a break from cards for awhile and hope the bad card karma wears itself out.
