Was in Vegas this past weekend. It was so surreal walking around and seeing little old ladies hawking porn. We stayed at the Casino Royale Best Western and played $50 in free slot play, upon joining their player's club. The catch is you can only cash out if you win a jackpot. Sneaky sneaks. It took us about two minutes to go through $100 in free slot play. I like video poker, whenever I do gamble, but decided not to gamble at all.

This is a question I have. Is it better odds to play $20 on one hand or $10 on two hands. I always try and play two hands and seems to me that my money lasts a lot longer playing two hands, during losing shoes and win more during winning shoes.

Video poker/blackjack is a great way to get your free drink on for a very minimal fee. I've slammed 3 or 4 beers in 20 minutes after putting $5 in a $.25 machine at a bar and cashed out even. leave the payout for the bartender as a tip and you're all good.

I agree, I also found video roulette is good for the same reason. I had never played it before until we went before Christmas. I tried the standup table but was intimidated by everyone around the table. The video version is cheaper and so much more relaxing when you need a break.

That's exactly why they created the video version of table games; to create a gateway for those too intimidated to approach a live game, hoping they eventually gain the confidence to play live. Minimum bets at the video versions are often lower than the live versions, but the tradeoff is that the odds typically pay less on all wins.

The MGM Grand pool and lazy river opened in March. And I don’t know, the atmosphere inside the MGM Grand casino feels like a convention center to me. It’s somewhat stale and there’s too much foot-traffic through the gaming areas, and the table stake are not going to be cheap. As Drinky said, the Tropicana across the street should have lower stakes, but I haven’t been there in a while to be able to comment on the atmosphere. Hooters (just behind Tropicanna), definitely has lower stakes than MGM and typically a more upbeat environment. For a long-walk, or short cab-ride, Hard Rock is a good alternative with a great atmosphere and surprisingly, table stakes that are lower than all the big Strip Hotels.

Roulette has bad enough odds as is, so when the craving is absolute, be sure to search for wheels with only one green number (0), not two (0 and 00).

I was shocked to find out on my last two trips that are great low stakes table in the Bellagio (including some $5 Blackjack, even), which is also a totally gorgeous room to play in.

I agree about playing in the MGM - I stayed there last year in one of the private owned condos, and my group was there mostly for the pools, which were a blast. I played a little bit in the casino, but it is weird.

The Trop doesn't feel as fun and laid back after the renovation - it's a very small casino, and it feels very fake and plastic in there. For a lower rent casino, I'd rather play in Imperial Palace - unfortunate;y O-Shea's and Bill's Gambling Hall, the other great dive casinos right there on the strip are now gone. Flamingo is fun too, and has brewery inside where you can get good pitchers of local craft brew for $6.

And even though it's hard to find tables under $15, I really like playing in Paris too.

I will have to go back and check out the Bellagio. I have walked through them all and loved the higher end casinos, the Cosmo is fucking gorgeous, but I think $50 was the cheapest blackjack table I found there. So I just started avoiding the newer places and usually do my gambling at the older casinos that usually stink like stale beer and smoke. It would be nice to gamble in a nicer place.

I found some $20 tables at Cosmo and played for a while while we were there drinking at the Chandelier last summer. i sat down with $60 just to see how I would do and ended up with a pretty good streak, got way up, then lost $80 in 4 bad hands, then walked away with $200 after a total 15 minutes total. Not bad, despite the fact that i had been closer to $300. I LOVE that hotel though, everything about it, but it is pricey. They have some of the most amazing food and cocktails there.

The Casinos at Wynn and Encore are nice too. They aren't as smoky as other hotel casinos and seem far better ventilated. Plus you have easy access to really great dining and lounges at both hotels. The sushi restaurant at Encore is fantastic, and Blush is great for pre-nightclubbing or just to hang out in for the whole evening.

    THIS.

I love the Hard Rock for so many reasons, and the tables is definitely one of them. Best atmosphere for me- it's right up my alley. Not crowded, intimate, attentive waitresses and quality people, and of course, great music. But, after WK 2 it's just so 'spensive! Twice what I paid last couple times I've been. I think I'll stay at the MGM for a change, and play at Hooters. That should make for an interesting time!

This. When i lived in Vegas I learned real fast that is never any reason to pay more then 20 on drinks in a bar with 25 cent Keno.

Yeah I'm with you. Shoulda booked a couple of days in Vegas after weekend 1.

For all this gamble-gamble talk though, this past weekend, and the next 2 weekends represent the big Kentucky Derby prep races (the races that determine who runs in the Kentucky Derby). We're a month away folks. Keep an eye on this thread for useless advice/picks/banter closer to the big race http://www.coachella.com/forum/showt...kentucky+derby

Also, the few times I play roulette I like to cluster bet... spread my chips all around maybe 3 numbers lined up side-by-side-by-side? All corners lines and right on the number. Is this a smart way to go at it?

That's it, I am planning a trip to Vegas.
When did gambling become a team sport? If I'm playing how you wish me to play, are you gonna give me a cut of your winnings? I doubt it, and I for damn sure ain't gonna divvy up mine. Sure we're all there to beat the house (regardless of the game), but we're there individually. This is why I don't play the game. Nor do I play Poker, because I don't see the skill involved in receiving cards.

And where the hell are you, Archie?!

Archie, are there any bars in Las Vegas that are not gross? (Ie, not Disneyified tourist traps?) If so, what are they?

Archie, where is the best place in Vegas to buy sparkly second-hand showgirl headpieces?

Archie, will you ever answer the questions in this thread?

Of all the casino games poker probably takes the most skill. Everything else is guessing and pushing buttons.

Take $20 that you were going to gamble and go to the pinball museum. You will be much more entertained than blowing it in a machine at the casino. No alcohol allowed but there is the Rum Runner caddy corner across the street which has good diner food and pool tables. There are some newer bars downtown in old Vegas that seem to always be doing well. Commonwealth is popular and the bar across from it which features a road case bar and road case stools as well as a nice pool hall and bar. Griffin is fun but always way crowded. Beauty Bar can be fun but it too gets crowded. And as always go to Ellis Island on Koval for awesome cheap food and cheap tall in hpuse microbrew. Hofbrahuaus is close by to and caddy corner across the.street from the Hard Rock.

You can hedge your bets (use your mathematical skills) and use systems that will reduce the house's odds greatly in craps, roulette and black jack. Problem is they dont like you doing it when you are winning and they can refuse you play.

Commonwealth and Beauty Bar are good but every once in a while they charge to get in because of special events. The roof to bar area on Commonwealth and the backyard area of the beauty bar are awesome to hangout at right now that the weather is nice.

He is full of shit. There is no secret formula to beating the casino. The gambler always plays with a disadvantage. The only gambling you can make money on reliably without cheating or getting very lucky is poker when you are at a table with bad players. The OP probably got cracked really hard recently and wants to take down as many people as possible with him. Either that or hes trying to get as many new online customers as possible.

Archie, in response to this, I would suggest you can make decent coin on sports wagering as well. Poker and Sports, that's it. Do ever get bored sitting at a table indoors for large parts of the day? How do you stay relevant? How have you changed your routines once the economy went South? Is online poker of any value to you at this point or is is not worth the hassle? Where do you 'work' (Online, Vegas, LA Cardrooms, other?)

Wait, what? You think that's me? No.

I love and have lost at every type of gambling. I do not claim to be a winner. I know better from personal and work experience. I worked in 7 - 8 different casinos in CA for about ten years. It is an awful job where you watch people slowly destroy their lives daily. I left the industry in 2010 and now work at an elderly care facility. I am much happier now.
