My friend got refused entry and had to take his camera back to the campsite.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world.

I think part of the reason the rule is in place is because it is very black and white. It would be hard to educate everyone in security what a professional or nonprofessional camera is based off of brand and specs etc. This way it is very cut and dry.
Got my DSLR in last year they didnt even see it in my backpack! Wrapped in around a sweater and had my 50mm on so it wasnt so bulky. Once i was in the grounds no one seemed to care. here is the video
I've been to coachella for 5 years and have encountered camera problems twice through security. one year they made me take it back to my car and another I took the shuttle bus and so i couldn't just simply put my camera away somewhere so i tried entering with a different security guard and was let in. My camera wasn't even a detachable lens but it had a big zoom. Last year i bough a tiny digital camera from cannon and no longer have to stress whether my camera will get in or not
there is no way to train security guards on all the cameras you people consider pro or non pro. removable lens squashes most of the issues. im sure in the future at some point things will change but no use arguing about it now. go start a security company with highly trained photographers for searches.
She added the phrase "meany head" to my profile.I hardly think I'm an attention whore.
I know this is an old post but last year I had a Cheap flip camcorder the security at the gate looked at it shook her head and said "this is to professional" it was a 150.00 camera....
I really want to bring in my gopro but if that was to,professional then a GoPro would defiantly be right?
I've brought a Canon powershot SX20 IS megazoom, which does not have a detachable lens, in each of the last 3 years and only had security question it once. It is a relatively big camera for being a point and shoot so I understand questioning it but the security guard kept trying to force the lense off when you could clearly tell it did not have a detachable lens. Finally another security guard looked over and told him it was OK and they let me through.
also i just want to take pretty pictures at your pretty festival. but hey, i made my point, and now you've read it, so thanks!
right here for the lens check.
The point is, if one of these retards doesn't let you in, try another one (unless they confiscate your shit and throw it away, in which case you're just fucked. It was nice of him to accept my verbal abuse and not eject me from the festival, however.)
Person in front of me had a digital cam with a removable lens and had take it back to their campsite. It was like on of those compact Nikon ones that isn't even a DSLR, but just because it had a removable lens. I always take in a compact digital camera. However we did help someone sneak in their Hula Hoop, so I'm sure anything is possible lol.
