Tommy - I had no issues last year getting to and flying out of Ontario for a early flight. I have a 3pmish flight out of Ontario on Monday this year. I'll be heading out by noon just in case. Can always go eat and relax somewhere near the airport. LAX I would leave a lot of time, traffic can be a bitch. Avoid the freeways between 9-11am though commute traffic sucks.
Its been a few years since I lived in LA, but I think there are a few carpool areas depending on the route you take. Most of those are time based though so wont officially be Car Pool Lanes when you go. You may hit some traffic (Welcome to So Cal), but as long as you dont get into the commute times you should be ok. Give yourself the time to get to the LAX area before 2 ish. By 3 you've got the commute again 7-11am 3-7pm are the bad hours.
Thanks again.
So traffic out from the actual festival area isn't too bad?
Last year a lot of people in my camping area left late night Sunday or early early Monday. By 10am it was a straight drive out, no issues.
None of them are time based in the way you're thinking and they never have been. Carpool lanes operate 24-7 in the LA area.
There are brand new "express lanes" that just opened last month on the 10 just east of downtown (and a bit less recently on the 110 south of downtown) that require a fastrak transponder to use, but you shouldn't be driving on that stretch of highway to get from Indio to LAX anyway.

I had no problems leaving early Monday morning at 8am, stopping for breakfast in Racho Mirage for about an hour or so, taking the scenic route to the 10 freeway, and getting to LA by around 2pm.
Still, where is this flight you have to catch?
I think tommybrand is my favorite new poster of 2013.
Good luck on your exit strategy.
