Oh, and when you get stuck next to trucks full of frat bros blasting cheese all day and night and then having them ask you for a jump on the last day because they drained their car battery.
    Dear god please no.

I have a client who owns a farm, and residence in the area, so we got a standing offer stay at his home, but prefer to camp. Don't have to mess with driving, and getting stuck in traffic, parking, hiking to the venue every day. More energy for the actual event.

I have done both. Hotel and camping. Decided to camp again this year. MUCH less of a hassle getting around. You have your stuff close if needed. You meet a ton of more cool people. Staying cool is the only thing for me.

I have a 10x20 EZ-UP to chill under, wet towels from the ice cooler on your head is magical. Just take it easy in the day or you won't make it through the night.
    2013 Weekend 2 - Camping

    My Set List

Friday - Aesop Rock, Band of Horses, Bassnectar, Jurrasic 5, Luciano, Metric, Modest Mouse, Of Monsters and Men, Polica, Purity Ring, Yeah Yeah Yeah's
Saturday - Dropkick Murphys, The Postal Service, Puscifer, Savages,
Sunday - The Gaslight Anthem, La Roux, The Lumineers, Paul Oakenfield, RHCP, Social Distortion, Wu-Tang Clan

Lets just say, you can tell a lot about a person by their opinion on camping at Coachella. Its more than half the appeal of the festival, without a doubt...

This actually happened. I wanted to tell them to fuck off but they gave me a fifth of patron. Still didnt make up for having to hear levels 100+ times over the course of the weekend.

Why does it feel like "Do the hustle" when you say it?

You are not. The sounds of people having fun and oonts oonts oonts lulls me to sleep.

Any news on tent city? I stumbled across some really cool people in 2010 who were kind enough to invite us over for some blow and some night caps.
I would never want to belong to any club that would have someone like me for a member...

We shall see... Hopefully the relative lack of Sahara cheese on the lineup this year has thinned that crowd. Alas, I am not camping so don't have to worry, do you?!

Personally I prefer staying off site with a group of friends and biking in, but here are the positives and negatives to camping:

    Positives:
    - It's the cheapest lodging option
    - There's a strong sense of community and it's easy to make new friends
    - No need to drive or worry about traffic and cops
    - Perfect place to chill when there's nothing on your schedule (easy in-out)
    - Can save money on alcohol by going to the tent instead of the beer garden
    - Dodgeball and pingpong and all that jazz

    Negatives:
    - Whether it's too cold or too hot, it's you and the elements separated by nylon
    - Your AC consists of a small battery powered fan and dirty cooler water
    - Not everyone is a good neighbor; a few of them are loud, annoying, fucked up, stinky, disrespectful thieving cunts
    - Shower waits take 30min-1hr
    - Public porto-potties for 4 days
    - Air mattresses aren't as comfortable as beds
    - No electricity other than your vehicle's cigarette lighter and batteries
    - Horse shit

It is what it is. If you're going to camp then please at least do us all the courtesy of taking a shower every day or bring boxes of baby wipes.

Thanks. My feelings as well... I've always thought that camping was for poor people that couldn't afford a hotel or house for rent.

Camping really gives you that total weekend escape . You feel like you live in this coachella fantasy world for a few days. Hotels take away from that.

I've camped every year since '06 and wouldn't do it any other way really. Just bring some shade, earplugs and maybe a sleeping pill or something to crash out when you need. The convenience, cost and fun is completely worth the sacrifice of creature comforts like showers

Have you stayed at a hotel while attending Coachella? I for one do not believe it has taken away from my experience. I am sure camping is fun but frankly it is not for me especially when I am travelling from the east coast.

I think that the camping breaks down all the barriers you see on the message board the rest of the year, and then puts everybody on the same page for the festival.
Its like the Infinite Monkey Theorem, if you put X amount of monkeys in a room with a typewriter and ask them to give you Shakespeare 99% of them will fling their shit at you while the other 1% will masturbate in the corner.

Yea, I agree. Camping shouldn't be chosen over general hygiene. I like camping, but staying hygienic is essential as well.

So I ended up car camping for Thursday-Monday and I have to say the overall experience was ok. The people I met were super nice and I had a great spot in lot 8 108th st and Main. But those porta potties were maybe the sickest thing I ever seen and the females I went with weren't too comfortable. I'll be doing a hotel from now on.
