Thread: Old People

  1. #1

    Default Old People

I'm guessing that being 47, I will be considerably older than most people in attendance. How many old folks are out there, and further, how many of them attempt to survive the on site camping?

And yes, I 'm expecting to flamed here as well as at the festival.

You are definitely going to get flamed here, that's the nature of the beast, but don't worry about the festival itself. There is all sorts of people in all sorts of age brackets that go (and camp too). Had some older folks a few spots down from us last year that were wicked chill and would come by to drink a couple beers with my buddies and I at our camp.

Just don't be a douche yelling about all the "damn kids" or the "noise" and you'll be good!

As long as you don't give a shit about what people think of you, you will be fine. Camping on the other hand can be hit or miss. Last year I was next to some awesome people. They didn't mind my age and they didn't make me feel out of place and even welcomed me to join them on several occasions. Another year I was camped next to the most obnoxious groups of young people ever. Blasted their music that no one liked, knocked over my tent several times when they stumbled around drunk at night, and I came back one night to find them all sitting on my car leaving a dent on my hood and beer bottles strewn all over my site.

I still owe some older gentleman a beer for helping me get mine into camping when security was being shitty about me leaving my wallet in my tent. They weren't going to hold the beer for me for any amount of time, and he said it was his to get the line rolling. If you're cool, age is instantly disregarded. As long as you think you can physically make the weekend, then that's all that matters. Better pack your walking shoes.

    thanks for the responses already.

I run about 40 miles a week, so no prob with the physical fitness. I go to at least 5 punk shows a year, usually stand at the outskirts of the action where I end up deflecting those flung in my direction so no problem there either. About the only thing that would cause me to go into 'old guy' mode would be if some a-hole did something physically to me or my stuff. Pissing on my car for instance might get me ticked off. Falling on tomy tent @ 4 am might get me going. Loud noise and a few beer cans are not a problem.

I am also not planning on arriving until about midday on Friday, so hopefully the hardcore party will be closer to the gates with the early arrivals.

i'm pretty young myself, but my fiance is a considerable amount of years older than me (in her 40's).
we always have a good time - and we find that (especially at coachella), people don't really think of anyone in an age - like everyone else said, as long as you're cool, positive, and ready to have a good time, then there is no such thing as "old".

I must say, ALL of the "older" people who I've met / hung out with at Coachella have probably been the best people I've met.

Why would we flame you?..You're like a sweet little old grandpa. I would never make fun of my grandpa.

I kid I kid...Most people are really cool within the camp grounds area. I've heard it's become like Brochella these past few years but take everything with a grain of salt. You'll find d-bags everywhere but most times than not you'll be able to make friends no matter what age you are... Just be yourself and you'll find similar folk. Have Fun!!!!

PS-there are actually a good amount of "older" people that go.

There are lots of people there is their 40s. My first Coachella was for my 40th birthday and I had a blast. I found that anyone who would be worth hanging out with is just there to have fun and meet people that also enjoy music and festivals, regardless of age.

Can't think of a better way to celebrate your 40th!

My husband and I are also in our 40's and attend every year, but rent a home for the week.

I take solace from the fact that at 53 I'm younger than David Hasselhoff and Danny DeVito, so there are at least two people older than me. I stay in a hotel though.

They should arrange a 40 or over section of the campground. That way we can show these young kids how to actually party. That is after I take my afternoon dose of metamucil of course.

    People over 40 are gross.
    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

You're younger than The Penguin from Batman Returns? Uhh.... cool? All the actual penguins from that film are now dead from old age. Just saying...
